Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

They are selling the BMM again?

For double its initial price?

Surely this shows how buying JPGs is a good deal! Their value can only go up and up!
$50 more than double...although I'm not complaining...I paid $250 for my BMM many years ago. It's sat in buyback for the last 3 years at that original concept price until I did the melt shuffle and dragged it out again, now it's a $550 ship with all indications that the price will double again before it becomes flyable 🤷‍♂️

It's not about cash value either...but it's more than handy since it increases CCU or melt value. By the time it appears, I'll be able to CCU it for an Idris

Switched on twitch. Boredgamer is on.

Someone in chat asks how much money does he think they will have raised by the time the game(s) release.

1 billion. He thinks, genuinely, 1 billion.

And then someone in chat later explains - apparently proudly - they had managed to buy (whatever, a chariot of some sort) for only $500! Boredgamer congratulates them for getting it at that price.

What in the world ....

Oh, and what Boredgamer is really looking forward to in the game is industrial gameplay, large scale mining, base building. Edit - and exploration, whatever that means to him.

Uhuh.
I've bough the Ideology DLC for Rimworld. Then I was thinking about a communist collectivist PT. I started one - even flavoured it with ballad of John Henry quote - but I canned it. Not compelling.
So I went in thinkensthing and came up with tribe of which the young folk stumbled over old records. They deciphered and found out the tribe is descendant of starship crash (botanic freighter) and the Elders have been keeping this secret. After roasting the Elders on a spittle the playthrough begins and is why tribal start is blessed with 150% research speed because they have all the records. They are still barbaric tribals slowly discovering universe. I expect violence.

Is quite compelling this time.

Ah yes, why I came to post about Rimworld:
The tribe's ideology is kinda blend of naturalist and Mechanicum under "human primacy" lead idea. It's a mess, but I didn't say it is pretty. I think about it as future space Maori. There also is a tendency to make good use of blunt melee weapons. I like that idea.

You know things are heated when refund sub memes are being discussed on the main sub ;)

Seems it's because of friendly local test-a-holic Camural. (The guy who prompted Chris's posting spree last year by questioning another missing feature).

He made this vid:

Then got himself dumped into concern on Spectrum for daring to ;)

Honestly I like the guy. His recent vid on medical impediments and recuperations was neat. (Having the ability to reverse most annoying impediments is good, even if with some 'addiction' downside etc).

And as bonus he normally finds the best bugs ;)

When CIG have already sold more or less solid colour paintjobs, makes it hard for CIG to then give people the ability to effectively make the same paint jobs FOC.

So, regarding that ban, he didn't actually do anything wrong. He just posted the video which wasn't bad in any way. The mods didn't even delete the the thread, they just moved it to another sub forum, indicating there was no grounds to remove it (not that it would normally stop Spectrum mods) whereas videos praising CIG are not moved to the fan creations sub forum. And they banned him why exactly?

Because he talked about mods moving his thread? LOL.

Love Nightrider's comment.

Threads are moved all the time on this platform

Yeah, as if they would move a thread praising CIG.

The mods there are really off their rockers.

No, because despite his hard character Dredd actually followed the law meticulously. The mods there don't appear to care about the rules, only in a way that suits their desire to shut down any criticism.
But surely they can't make stuff up on the spot? For such a large forum surely they have rules?

They do indeed have rules. You should see how they apply them though. Look at any thread that is negative and gains traction. They will shut it down the moment anyone says anything negative about CIG citing the rule about not being abusive to the devs. Basically you're not allowed to say anything negative about CIG directly.

Example, you can be criticial like: I think this was the wrong decision

You can't be critical like: This was a stupid decision by the devs.

One or two posts like that might fly under the radar, but if it gains traction, bang goes the thread. Best time is at the weekend, mods tend not to patrol too much. CIG's mods are on a salary, so it means they have working hours, and weekends would require time and a half or double time (i guess USA does still have overtime for weekend work? Or have they done away with that already?) Anyway, they will be contracted for certain working hours, so the more they work, in theory, the more CIG would have to pay them. Although i presume the US doesn't have anything like Europe's Working Time Directive considering the horror stories i've heard about working hours in the US.

Oh, and don't mention anything to do with legal rights and refunds. That's an instant lock and a ban.

Oh noes! The JPG factory has ran out of JPGs!

Oh @Rubbernuke

LOCKED

LOCKED

LOCKED

But never fear, CIG didn't do it to shut down discussion. They simply identified a single thread to hold the discussion...

Nightrider offers some friendly advice.

Hi all,

As there are a number of duplicate threads on this topic, this is going to be the one that remains in place in the General section.

As a friendly reminder for all, in order for a video to remain in the General section, it must promote some level of discussion, which is the intended use of the General section. If it is simply a cross-post or does not invite discussion, it will be moved to the Fan Creations section of Spectrum. This isn't new, and how we try to maintain some sense of organization around here.

This thread is a brilliant example of one that encourages discussion, so as I mentioned above, will remain in place.

Lastly, to address some of the concerns about previous threads being removed for containing criticism, that's not the case at all. We welcome and even encourage all types of feedback, especially criticism. So long as we can remain constructive and healthy, then this type of feedback is extremely valuable to us. In the case of ship paints, we've coordinated with the rest of the Community team to ensure some of these keynotes are raised up to development.

Thanks all, and happy chatting!

I give it 1 day before its locked.

This thread is a brilliant example of one that encourages discussion

Because it isn't critical!

Only on Spectrum and the SC subreddit would it be surprising news that the server meshing CR described is impossible...most of us on here worked that out when Turbulent was dumped with trying to forge an acceptable, workable solution to server meshing out of current tech.
There are solutions to "server meshing" as CiG calls it but they involve gutting the whole pile of spaghetti code at the core of their game engine, and starting with a fresh cloud-based real time game engine. Also this will never, ever, in any incarnation, support the twitch shooter kind of gameplay they seem to aim towards at the moment. Latency will be too high in absolutely any case even the best scenarios. Slowing the gameplay down to more realistic movement would be a start, then with a bit of interpolation it could be done. And slowing it a lot would solve pretty much the whole problem. Also getting rid of the whole physics engine, and of the huge client authority that their engine has at the moment, which by itself creates a ton of problems (server sync, p2p sync, cheaters..).
But of course they'd never admit they went the wrong way, so they are now trying to find workarounds for their incompetence.
