Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Have to agree. If they went for realism most SC ships would break apart or flip over flying through atmosphere anyway. Realism shouldn't and can't be the goal here. It should highlight the differences in capabilities and of course, fun.
What i was saying is currently SC is balanced towards "zero realism" with atmo having the only effect of dampening thrusters and max speed. There's zero aero effect, and yeah with 100% realistic aero a lot of ships would just flip around, but having a bit more of a ramp in piloting skills would be neat, having at least to finesse the atmo entries, or landings, bringing some usefulness to the currently place holder VTOL, also having ships with wings use control surfaces (which are not moving at all at the moment, another place holder) so they could make tighter turns in atmo, and of course have more aero effects depending on the shape of the ship - a huge flying brick should really feel like one, which is not the case at the moment. Flying is not fun IMHO, and it caters towards the "light fighter vs everything" population who just want their 6DoF FPS.

Got a third person view of the ship flying and landing?
I rarely switch to 3rd person in ships or on foot...kinda defeats the whole point of immersion for me...though I still don't see what difference it would make if I had. Ships in SC fly like I expect them too which is kinda the point. Whether that stacks up to reinforce your singular point of view I've no idea...but they're fine for me :)

Well, people could just react to statements like "no-clip" without blaring the horns and mounting their chargers to defend it, and it would go ignored.
I'm only 'defending' it because your statement was so definitive...and mostly formed from watching a variety of Twitch clips or YouTube videos, I actually fly the things fairly regularly and offered up my experience of the flight model as such. I'm no great defender of anything star citizen, it has it's good bits as well as bad bits...the flight model isn't that bad...inside or outside of the ship ;)

Have to say that I enjoy your posts in this thread. First because of experience and secondly thorough honesty.

I took a year and a bit out after refunding at the end of 2016/beginning of 2017...SC showed enough progress for me to buy back in during 2018. Unfortunately, it's mostly stagnated again...I think I preferred Ci¬G's 6 month radio silence between 2.63 and 3.0 before decimating content and vanishing previous roadmaps, now they do it every month :)

Yeah, well, since i can't fly them, i can only judge them based on how they appear to fly. So, when i see a big ship just moving around like they would look if being moved in a model viewer, its going to give me that impression.

Flying them, maybe it doesn't feel that way.

Wasn't actually referring to you.

Seems like Spectrum is up in arms against the latest derelicts plans.

CIG...please don't make derelict sites a 'Sonic the hedgehog' platform game!

Not every derelict site has to be a sideways scrolling 90's platform game! In fact...how about none of them being that.

There is nothing some unrealistic and, dare I say, 'unimmersive' as a crash site arranged in a looping contrived platform for going from A to B to object of desire.

Let the site itself be the 'puzzle'. Let the fire, the smog, the fog or mist be the obstacle.

Let the threat of discovery, of alien life, of pirates, be the jeopardy - not the jump across two bits of contorted metal platform.

Let the retrieval of the object, the preparation for the mission, the tactical and strategic awareness, be the puzzle.

Please?
I don't mind the occasional "have to climb/jump here to go forth / find something interesting" obstacle, but making them a designed obstacle course is.. gamey
Granted, this is a game, but yea, it makes you feel like you're playing a game, not immersed in a "living breathing universe".

CIG basically showing just concept art is not surprising. The surprising bit is that they screw up the “dream” part too.

Its actually quite telling for me that for once backers noticed that CIG are just hyping something they have hyped for years. Normally the faithful have the memory of a goldfish.

Spectrum is fun at the moment.

And of course, some funny as hell comments

To be fair to CIG, they only had Staggered Development since 2019 or something. Before Staggered Development, they hardly got anything done. Totally different ballgame with Staggered Development.

So, they hardly got anything done before 2019, but now since then, when the roadmap and patches and repeatedly been gutted, its now faster? Never mind the fact that is been demostrated that CIG probably ditched staggered development soon after trying it.
