Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Oh my... how many caveats did he have to use to ensure it was actually plausible?

"A word record for a multiplayer game set in space, made by Chris Roberts, using only tech CIG have created, in a game engine only CIG has... a definite world record!"
Ho, it's more simple.
Record players' number in a players' vehicle.

"Why haven't they added another system yet?"
"It requires server meshing! It's complicated!"
That is not the main reason. They didn't add more systems before because the planet technology was not stabilized and the mass production tools were not mature enough. They redid all of Stanton's planets with each major iteration of planet technology. If they added other systems, they would have had to redo them several times as well.

So what you are saying is, there are no other planets or systems ready to go, they all have to be done from scratch? Remarkable!

Planets are made by procgen and afterthat tuned to add interesting natural structures to play. Once the planet is done, POI are placed manually.
If CIG want to produce 100 systems with raw planets and randomly placed POI like in ED, they have all the tech to do it with few clicks, but that's not the plan.
Pyro is worked since 2020-2021, don't think they are no other system ready.

No, no. SC is actually much less fun to play than a lot of released games. I have tried it and it sucks. Trust me. And that is precisely because it is broken and incomplete 🤷‍♂️
It's your personnal view against my personnal view + all other players giving money now to CIG with record breaking funds. Or perhaps you think CIG has a magic 'buy gun' to force players to spend money on a non enjoyable game ? Since at least 1 year, funding are from the second wave of players, judging what they play and not what the game will be like the original wave of backers.

Yes I do find that quite baffling. Even if we take everything we know about Star Citizen out of the equation, it's an alpha. The job of the folks playing it is to test for bugs. Any progress they make will be wiped. Usually alpha testers get paid BY the company for their work, not the other way around

So I'm thinking they must have some sort of "buy gun" working, or at least some mechanism in place that attracts these testers. It might not be illegal, but most folks agree that it was naughty of Tom Sawyer to trick those other kids into painting the fence for him

Maybe it's the referral system, or the secondhand market in used pretend spaceships. But I think it must be the enthusiastic supporters who wax lyrical about the game, while hiding/downplaying the fact that any progress will be wiped

With how things are going, it may be best is they just sora start over, you know? Takes 10 years by current method to do 90% of one system? Lets go to plan B.

I've spent 45 euros on the alpha, nothing more. When you can go past the bugs, SC is a really fun and enjoyable game. I don't have a count of hours played but I think I've at least 200 hours and I started playing from a time when every 3 months, we had a full wipe. But at each patch, the fun is better, the content is growing and there is something new to see. Simple as that. For sure, if you follow the game here, you can't understand why backers keep playing SC despite the (not so frequent now) wipes.
Next patch, I think I will spend at least 10-20 hours just discovering the new derelicts in space and on ground. Having my progress perhaps wiped in 4.0 will not erase the fun moments I will have in these derelicts.

Which method ? It's not 10 years to make one system using a 'method', it's 10 years to create the company, engine, tech and workflow to do a system. When Pyro will be out, the engine, tech and workflow will be almost complete (jump point, big outposts on ground, proc gen for big space station, improved caves, improved city biome, easy to place rivers and some other improvements). After Pyro, creating new generic systems (not the specific ones) will almost be only using the tools existing. It's pre-alpha, Stanton is not about creating a system, it's about creating the creative engine.

That's one reading. Mine is more along the lines of that they're developing the game a little backwards and so have to revisit (and possibly completely redo) various and significant parts of the existing game whenever anything significant is changed. And this sounds 'a little inefficient' at best.

A macro/code to tag these posts with LAFF would be a useful forum addition methinks (LAFF = Little Ant Fun Factor i.e. subjective irrelevance).
On the other side, no need to add a macro to track the relevance of fun factor as explained by other posters, they all deny it... for a video game... as if the fun factor was not the reason number one for a gamer to play a game and spend money on it ! And also the fun factor being the reason number one why the funding is exploding.

That is nonsense and you know it. Few clicks my rear.

Is this what you have played or what GIG have said and showcased?

If it's the latter then I think that it's wisest to recognise that their track record of saying things and then delivery is not good, and that sometimes they have 'exaggerated' and arguably actively mislead people on actual progress.

As a side note, is 4.0 really 5 years late?
