Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Look, Chris is like the first person to take a space walk. He's Alexei Leonov.

His suit is ill-fitting, he has issues with his own emissions, has exerted a ton of energy just to get back where he started, and has missed his landing target by a terrifying margin. So currently he's up to his knees in sweat.

But on the plus side he's managed to irreversibly open a door, and has seemingly survived bear season. So it's not all bad.

Chris Roberts is no way near as badass as Alexei Leonov ;)

Grumpy realises his 2.5yrs with SC has involved nothing but 'Tier 0' additions...

(Think he's enjoying the Starchives keywording site ;))
Why?

Because:
  • From a design perspective, they don't know what they want, they're still prototyping
  • From a management perspective, they can't finish a thing
  • From a financial perspective, they raked half a billion with tier-0 so why bother? No incentive going further

Bunch of 3.18 videos from SC Leaks

Making a coffee to start? The reckless fool!

Vid 3:

Liking the Evo-tier endeavour to get back into the janking Carrack at the end ;)

Vid 5:
  • So they put on their helmet, then died in the airlock. No idea... Thought maybe it was replication layer lag not recognising the helmet, as the door did open for a bit, and they started asphyxiating. But then the door closed and their health just drained.
  • 9m: Fell outta ship, died naked in the abyss. At least the asphyxiation makes sense here ;)
Vid 6:

Ok so the hangar has no floor. The ship spawns on terrain below it. In true evo fashion they die to a light rain of NPCs 😁

Vid 7:
  • After a lovely 5fps train journey and the odd trippy elevator view they complete a sensible flight to another station.
  • Lands neatly. Explodes. [8m]

Vid 8:

After all the usual endeavour makes it to the hangar. It still doesn't have a floor. 30k...

star citizen is more like SLS instead of Apollo.

Getting Laurel and Hardy vibes from that. You know the episode where they try to sell X-Mas trees and it's a constant escalation of destruction?
My second fav is them on the skyscraper construction. It's just background image but I could feel the panic and vertigo well up watching their stunts. They don't make it like that anymore.

Buster Keaton or Harold Lloyd films were always my faves from back in the 20's...stunts were awesome.

Don't know what Grumpy means about recent Tier 0 stuff being neglected and janky...

Essengially you compared multicrew things with something that isnt multicrew. Noone bothers about the loading when they want to go on a mission. Hand loading is wasting time before the action takes place. And that's what games are about: crisp, time efficient entertainment. Barring some very niche hardcore sims, but I cannot see SC being capable of anything hardcore simming.
Server crash simulator maybe.

I'm not getting into an argument over this, but I didn't. I was just highlighting from personal experience that what I consider fun, I know others don't, and that hand on heart, you know there will be someone out there for who support roles (in any shape or form) ticks their box. Particularly as its reasonable to assume it'll form part of their gaming loop, rather than being the entirety of it.
In other bizarre news, it seems manufacturing is coming to the game as well.

ArgoMCV_IG_001_TheMcvIs=The MCV is great if you're looking to start up a business, but I think it'd be a solid choice even if you were just looking to find a new hobby. Imagine having one of these in hangar and being able to take it out and tinker whenever you feel like it?

ArgoMCV_IG_001_ArgosMcvIs=Argo's MCV is built to be a mobile factory. Perfect for anyone who's trying to kick off their manufacturing empire.
