Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

This could have been a good explanation for around 10 or even 8 years ago. Occam razor and all that. But after so many constant and repetitive missing of deadlines and Tier 0 mediocre and downright crappy releases for over a decade, not only his devs but even Chris should be fully aware that they are selling via misrepresenting goals that they probably know full well they can not achieve (plus fomo marketing and grey market incentives) so to squeeze money out of the market and save face by "we are working on it", actual delivery be damned.
The business model may be the most space-y feature of the mess: as "orbiting is just falling at the ground and missing", making the BDSSE is just shooting at the moon and making sure to miss any form of release.

Hey, Asian crime syndicates need money laundering too!

In the case of Star Citizen, this would never be an issue of course because CIG has a much more strict and extremely proactive control of the grey market than Valve. Valve supports scum AAA publishers. All funding in SC is just coming from backers that hope for the best even when the releases are probably among the worst stuff put in the hands of players for a long while! Right?

Also, 3000!

To copy the style of the opening credits of the TV series Numb3rs:

....all with more gameplay within than the whole of Skyrim, where the lifts work flawlessly and the sandworms roam free... where seldom is heard a discouraging word... and the jpegs are on sale today...

It irritates me that they're making excuses for why it isn't going well rather than asking if there should be a ship sale at all.
When they go bust, the loan will bust, too.
I'm hoping they go bust soon, I want to take advantage of high end PC being auctioned off to pay debt. At the very least I want a few monitors.

They shot for the idea of a moon when there was none and are now drifting aimlessly in space and getting further and further from being grounded.

That was an interesting read.
My initial thought was CIG might be using the funding tracker to launder money themselves.

While not wishing unemployment for those devs on the coalface in CIG, I do think CRobber should announce the studio shutting down via YouTube saying the technology wasn't there for his ambition while wearing a "Derek Smart was right" t-shirt.

You wouldn't be the only one with that thought.

Well, they themselves do not need to launder the money they get from ship sales etc. Unless you suggest they are onto other more nefarious activities, which would be indeed a bit too far fetched.

@Ed02349 Or maybe you were referring to round tripping as a way to boost fake sales in the tracker? I mean, I think CIG has all it needs to certainly make it possible with so many shell companies and what not. But it would be really daring, not sure even CIG would go that way. That way be dragons.

They don't need to. Hollywood Accounting is a perfectly legal way of obtaining individual profit out of a creative project which, on paper at least, is "losing money." One has only to look at the UK shell company's financials to realize that the Roberts Clan has been siphoning off at least 10% of backers funds for years, and has been getting increasingly brazen about doing so.
