How long and how much money would it take to actually make SQ42 and SC in Unreal 5? I'd guess it wouldn't take 11 years and over half a billion dollars.
Given they have so much art already done I'd say not long. It would actually go back to IIRC the idea of S42 in having a burst of missions with more released later, given the U5 pipelines are free flowing and can fit many devs down them.
 
Hmmmm, I'm guessing they've got the oxygen level thing working and now looking for something not already on the to-do list.

Real time? That should be interesting, that would be a first actually because I am not sure any game I have ever seen implemented effects that take place on a geologic time scale, so indeed a first for CIG, just not sure it's one that should be celebrated, but it fits in with the time scale of the games development certainly.

Maybe it's marketting's genius idea on how to get players to stick around?
