Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

To be fair, SC has way too many niche and obscure angles for even me to be up to speed on 😋 !

All that said, seems weird CIG does not try to use their newly revamped super duper extra good and cherry on top AC to promote the hell out of it with Esports stuff no? Would seem the natural thing to do. Unless they are not too confident in it or it’s too limiting of course.

If it happens in a PU server I suspect they ll somehow block access except for contestants to limit 30K and stability issues. Let’s just pray for no other usual PU shenanigans then!
What kind of ESports would that be? Who recover fastest from server crash? Causing 30K in minimum time possible?

I seem to recall it more like, even during the Odyssey beta, some folks saying they wished FDev focussed on new ships instead of legs, and how they wouldnt even get out of their ships, which I'd say is possible by just staying in their seat and that after Odyssey dropping, a boat load of folks trying out SC. I attributed that to having feet, finally, but I suppose it could be due, a little bit, to the bombshell Odysseys launch turned out to be.
With a player base as varied as those playing Elite, of course you can find some who didn't want legs, or wants fast travel etc, etc.. and it's fair that they are able to express that notion, but onfoot gameplay was a core part of the upcoming features to Elite so the idea that the neverleg types were shocked or felt ignored by Frontier implementing onfoot gameplay is disingenuous at best.

It's something that was always coming, I'm just talking about the "when" they'd implement it, and SC, of course, being a bit of an influence, as it's been to other games.
It's difficult to really say how much having onfoot gameplay in SC influenced Fontier's decision to make it for Odyssey. It's reasonable to suppose it was, but I think it's easily attributed to having onfoot gameplay being the launch pad for other things that are to come to Elite that maybe they decided to get this major part up and running first (no pun intended).

Quite enjoying the elite feet experience too, and since it runs, without buildings vanishing, does it better than SC can....for me, at least.
I love it. Of course, it could be more (what couldn't? :) ) but it was a huge addition to the game for me. We no longer live in the Elite version of the Cars universe for one.

Looking at it another way, when some people say ED died its because it became a little too much like Star Citizen?
To me that's an example of the how the marketing of SC has dictated perception of even Elite players when it comes to Elite. Like Elite is trying to be Star Citizen when Elite is the Grand Daddy of open world space games, and space-legs were always part of the feature-set.

However, that's just marketing, the best way to counter it is by Frontier engaging in some themselves rather than letting CIG dictate what people think about Elite, because you know it's not like CIG isn't going to be like "Elite has been a much more complete game since 2014 than we can hope to achieve by 2024". It's going to be zingers like "I've played 5,000 hours of Elite and after playing Star Citizen for one night, I never went back". The seed planted there is to not even bother trying out Elite and however bad one might think of SC, it's that much better than Elite, so how bad must Elite be?

I expect there were complaints about 'pay to win', but at a decade's distance I have no memory of it.
True, there's no complaints from me about that change, but it does also show the 'promise' argument using the aforementioned evidence is inconsistent and applied selectively. The only real conclusion that can be derived from it is that it's up to Frontier to decide what they want to dish out for free and what to put into a paid expansion, at the end of the day. Of course, we are all free to agree or disagree with those decisions, but you can't accept that Frontier can make x decision but not y decision if it's based upon the same foundation.

Of course it is, people remind Frontier about the bits that were supposed to be coming that they want. Can't see anything odd or surprising about that :)
