Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

In my younger days I spent a few months up in Glasgow. Took me about a month before i could understand a word the natives were saying.

However, it prepared me well for later in life. My wife had a friend from Glasgow and one night we were having drinks with them. After some time my wife said to me she could no longer understand them. I said it was ok, its just their native brogue coming through and that she should just smile and nod and i would "translate" for her. :D

That's Glasgow... i can imagine the Orkney accent being an order of magnitude worse!
Being more Viking that Scots, Orcadians sound a bit like the Swedish chef from the muppets with a slightly Scottish accent :D

The absolute test of Scottishness is to listen to anyone from north Aberdeenshire and pick up more than 3 words from a conversation. Doric is unintellgible to most humans.

Has there been any evidence* for the existence of SQ42 this year? (I'm genuinely curious.)

By evidence I mean 'in game footage' put on the interweb in 2020.

Please don't reply if intending to say any of 'spoilers' or 'beta soon' or 'reboot' or 'sandworms'. Thanks.

* Excluding the guy who has played through all the levels. Because. Well. 'Yeah right'.

Ahem... Vermes of the brittle earthy materia? Nope?

How dare you are. They Posted that they release an video about some progress in May I think. They also showed a JPEG of a roadmap for a roadmap. They also said that they are working on SQ42. What do you want more?
I mean ask yourself we are in year nine of the development phase it is clearly the early days. I swear we had a reboot around 2016.
Look at those fidelity and those graphics and the polygon counts it is clearly a super complex design. Did i mentioned that the Skyrim map fits into a crater on one of our moons?
You clearly don’t understand game development. I think you should buy one ore more Idris to fund the masterpiece of an real visionary.
/sarcasm 😉

And for the poeple who are saying it will never released....

Chris wrote in this thread:
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/.../thread/atmospheric-room-system-4-years-later
"Star Citizen already has the main gameloops of a space sim; cargo hauling, commodity trading, mercenary, pirate [sic], bounty hunting and mining."

So see the game is already nearly complete 😉

Over on /r/sc, someone posted this.

Funny reply from one person...

I mean, you could do the same sort of list for NMS and ED as well if you wanted to expand the comparsion to silly levels.
SC: Where do I get the Linux version?

I liked the idea of the spaceship shaped USB they promised originally as one of their stretch goals. Once you put it in your computer you'd hear Chris announce in his most heroic voice "Welcome to Star Citizen HE HE HEE" and the game would load super quick while the model would light up and make explosion noises.

Not sure what happened to that one, maybe they're stuck in China somewhere.

@sovapid - what's your hot take on this?

They all look good to me.

Players attacked by any NPC or player valid to arrest them should have a start/reset arrest timer started on them. If the player then dies by any means whilst this timer is active, they will be arrested. This timer is ended should the player manage to quantum travel, and will be between one and three minutes, extended by level of engagement with the NPC. This is to get around the unfairness of being arrested simply because an actor valid to arrest you is nearby as now that actor would have had to have attacked you recently.

This should keep players from going to prison just because they died while close to another player with the generic bounty hunting mission or npc. The bounty hunter or npc has to be actively attacking you to end up in prison. The prior mechanic was pretty annoying because if you died to a bug near someone with the mission, you'd respawn in prison. Bounty hunter could have had no idea you were even around.

Locking a missile on a ship will now count as hostility and allow that ship to attack you in self-defense. It will cause AI to attack and trigger an “Assaulting an Officer of the Law” infraction if done to law enforcement. This feature will be developed in line with future changes to the missile locking system.

This is good because right now a torpedo will one shot your ship. If an Eclipse shows up, gets a missile lock on you (which you get a warning for) you cant engage them/defend yourself without getting a crime stat. You have to let them blow you up if you want to avoid a crimestat yourself. Making the act of doing a missile lock a hostile act fixes this.

This is the last thing I remember. From December 25, 2019

Thanks! I'll take this one as an actual plus for SC then.

With the new station layout, you can no longer go between different sections of stations (hangars, main hub, habs, etc) on foot. You must go between them by elevator.

Does this smell like they are breaking interiors out into seperate maps with magical elevators between areas?

No, like Quantum Travel. It smells like they are adding gameplay mechanics that might as well be loading screens, while not actually being loading screens.

An issue with the current generated systems is there is no signage where things are. And where things are is different between all the stations. So finding, for example, the admin room where you sell stuff can be annoying. This solves hunting around for it.

But oh do I hate the elevators.

Looks like ROC is gonna be available in game for purchase with UEC. So all the non-special and non-alien ships are buyable in game still/again.

Yeah, was basically a 3D assets showcase, with zero gameplay, and nothing resembling like captured from an actual in-game play session. Oh and a Marvel Studios movies intro rip-off, because CIG.

Let it never be said that CIG are ashamed or ripping off other franchises! They boldy steal whatever they want in order to promote their own product, with nary a concern for their own integrity.

At the end of the day, should the lawyers come knocking, they can always claim fair use because its a parody.
