Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

...i remember having to post my game disk of MSR back to Sega due to them screwing up Metropolis Streen Racer, it was massive news at the time and must have cost a fortune in postage alone, let alone the reprinting the GDROM etc, and lets be honest, Elite 3 1st encounters never really recovered from its launch.....
Who else remembers eagerly awaiting the next month's edition of <the gaming mag of your choice> for the 3.25" disc stuck to the cover... to rush home and apply the patches/fixes for the game of your choice?

Now... you try telling the young people of today... and they just don't believe you...

My new favorite reply and a simple pointer to why the game will never ever crash with a fan base like this.
The Topic is

Standard MMO features... when?

The reply is to somebody asking for a way to resize the chat:

Ahh, that Carmageddon demo. Gameplay for days...

(Altho you've reminded me I fell for the 'Reincarnation' reboot 😁)
Oh me too. Is it just me or was the coverdisk version of the original game THE version? Even though it was time limited? The full game wasn't as good, I thought at the time.

Probably all perception rather than reality. A full game could never live up to the 3 mins of chaos and exploding grannies in the demo :D

Buying games in the 80s? What was that?

Good luck copying Doom (1993) & Carmaggedon (1997) with that 😁

(Bought both back in the day on the strength of their demos/shareware, though Carmageddon had the awful zombie patch applied on the CDROM due to worries about the pearl-clutching types - thankfully a cover-disk blood patch eventually sorted that one out).

Back onto SC - is it a thing with people streaming this game that they are required to laugh like loons whenever a game-breaking bug ruins whatever they’re doing? Is it secretly a new Goat Simulator game where the jank is the point?

Back to the 80s, who remembers why you needed to raid your dad's toolbox for one of these?

I had a c-60 packed with Speccy stuff (er…all backups of legally owned games*) and some of them were particularly sensitive to the tape deck settings/head alignment.

Perhaps the SC servers just need the tape reader head azimuth tweaking a bit?

*…though possibly not all actually by me.
