Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

This guy reckons instanced hangars may be behind some performance hits. And they brought some stats...

🛑 MASSIVE PERFORMANCE HITS DUE TO STREAMING / NET THREAD + HANGAR CONTROL INPUT LATENCY 🛑

1. When Quantum'ing to an from locations with hangars or large amounts of assets to be streamed in, this may likely cause massive NET THREAD hits and client low FPS and freezes. See game packet graph below as example.

2. When inside a hangar where there may be other layered hangar instances, this seems to cause control input latencies 3-5 seconds.
Try to land your ship, or operate your ground vehicles in your hangar.
*This doesn't always happen, and seems to be related to how many hangars are layered in your location.

Got to love how some players are trying to cope with a broken 4.0 in this thread with "Please CIG don´t do what FDEV did with Odyssey!".

Surprisingly a good number of ED supportive comments in this sorry excuse for a thread. This one in particular in a subthread about ships comparisons caught my eye:

[SC ships are] Empty shells with no functionality unfortunately. Whereas with an Elite ship you can spend hours switching out modules to do completely different things.

At some point staring at the space toilet and pressing the button for the toilet paper just isn't enough.

Star Citizen: At some point staring at the space toilet and pressing the button for the toilet paper just isn't enough.

Funny. OP though is off the mark with:

Now no one plays that FPS mode

Also

SC should play on it`s strength, people consistently want exploration

Well, yes. CIG even did a poll asking players what feature they should focus on next, and exploration won by a huge margin. So CIG focused on mining instead. Erm...

Loving the thread.

Here's a fun one

While SC is not just Rust in Space, it is a game that has both PvE and PvP elements this has been well communicated from the beggining of the project.

Ah, so often when people bring up things that were communicated from the beginning of the project they are told by the faithful "things change". But private servers were also something from the beginning of the project, allowing PvE only servers... so, which is right? Things change or it was well communicated from the beginning.

I got into another player's hangar in a station by accident and was not teleported out. I could take off in their ship - but when I tried to open the hangar doors, the station opened the doors to my hangar instance, not the one I was in. Opportunistic shipjacking foiled. It probably messed up their cargo mission though

One glitch through station geometry once when crawling around in the muck so far. Refueling services are hit-and-miss-and-magic. Sometimes the ship comes up with a full tank again.

Yeah I keep seeing the hangar protection / ownership going haywire.

Sometimes it relocates trespassers as it should. Sometimes it relocates them into space. Sometimes it has them in no-clip mode for entities, leading to some awkward incarcerations. Sometimes it does nowt and griefery can occur.

Somewhere in that Venn diagram ownership definitely seems to be jumbled up.

(This gentleman is discussing aspects of the same...)

(Here he is as a ghost)

I guess it's probably the hangar instancing driving half of it. With PES maybe peeing in the rest of the glass? ;)

Someone just needs to flush Star Citizen completely, it has been stinking out the joint for years.

Jesus, the details of how bad this is broken are utterly amazing. This guy is explaining a few of the possible ways the game can break, including the appearance of "ghost" floors in the elevator list, i.e. locations that do not really exist and once you are in there those despawn after a few minutes and you find yourself in space, or appear in someone else´s hangar floating... I mean, how broken is this? In what world can this thing be even entertained by any client base as acceptable at any level? Like, at all?
