Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

@TNTDany - some lovely screenshots there and I think most of us agree, SC can look very nice, although some of the older assets are looking dated now.

But all we see are screenshots of you standing around or moving from A to B.

Did you actually do any... you know... actual functional gameplay?
Star citizen can be fine if you do what Dan is doing and just bimble around doing nothing in particular. The problem arises when you attempt to add any sort of gameplay to the bimbling...it's invariably broken and causes nothing but grief and disappointment. This is the way :)

I quite enjoy the sightseeing and bimbling stuff myself...hence the positive nod to Dan's graphic novella via the screenshot bonanza...it's usually a tolerable and scenic way to spend a couple of hours. It's infinitely peaceful away from the usual annoyances of other players jumping around like well armed Energizer bunnies and tends not to be bug ridden and unplayable unless you get too ambitious...

I honestly can't remember the last time I even attempted as much as a box mission, never mind anything complicated like gameplay. Mining is broken, salvage is broken, cargo hauling is broken, refuelling is broken, refining is broken, bounty hunting is broken, bunkers and FPS missions are broken...so bimbling about, making up stories and taking screenshots it is 🤷‍♂️

I remember you talking positively about mining around a year ago? Sharing the odd screenshot... not pages worth.

Geez, it's probably way longer than that. I haven't really played since 3.17 and mining was broken back then too. I don't often have much positive to say about star citizen...but I'll sometimes give credit where I think it's honestly due. Some bits have occasionally been done fairly well...when they work. The actual mechanics of ship and ROC mining was one of those...until Chistopher Bobbins stuffed it all up by adding some entirely unwarranted and completely pointless complexity which broke it forever.

I did read the little storyline in between Dan's plethora of screenshots though...genuinely found it entertaining...much more so than 47 pages of Twitch clips from a seemingly unending role call of streamers crying into their plastic Red Bull bottles. Everyone to their own I s'pose :)

Heh, Golgot does get a bit carried away with those.

OTOH, its a solid counter to all those faithful who post "This patch is the best patch ever! So much more stable! I've not suffered any issues at all and buttery smooth server tick rates!"

Not too many of those about these days...they're almost an endangered species :D

I spent 90 minutes yesterday trying to get from a planet to a station to save myself there in the hospital.

Didn't manage to do even that :D

I was almost there once... but the lift said no. I completely lost it at that stage and just couldn't stop laughing for a few good minutes... (tried my best to hold it, as i promised myself I would approach this with positive attitude)

I do like the guys in the overlap though... The 'Everything was great, except for the bugs' guys ;)

Me and a bunch of friends have been grinding out contested zones. Very few problems.
Biggest issues we have encountered: About 20 minutes off all of our inventories not being usable. (1 instance) One full server crash that we had to wait 15~ for to get back in game. (1 instance) Ships disappearing off of our Polari in quantum.(50/50) Doors not working. (Consistent, but has a workaround)
So besides that, everything has been amazing! Smoothest this game has ever been, basically no stutters, or lag when lots of people are around, great rewards, and pyro is so fun. It's my new home.
Got my F7A MK II the very first ship we got from the contested zones so I'm extra happy. Me and my main friend who figured out the contested zone puzzles got first dibs, me for F7A and him for F8C.
I say this as someone who loves the game I am about to mention and has thousands of hours in it. But as of 4.0 elite dangerous doesn't even hold a candle to this game.

This was largely my experience yesterday too, aside from a brief (and literal) trip through my personal hangar floor that resulted in me needing to restock my FPS supplies and take the tram from the hospital again, lol.
Biggest thing I can into was the bed logging bug from 3.24 where "cannot rest in a landing zone" haunts you like the Ghost of Christmas Past and I had one of two F7's vanish from a Polaris hangar somewhere between leaving Orison and arriving at Bloom. That and had an issue with getting a hangar assigned at Starlight station, but it worked fine at Orbituary. The QT to stations thing was annoying, but I wound up just hoofing it in nav mode (though I haven't played today, so not sure if this has gotten worse).
Biggest issue I ran into was fighting with controller bindings again because I decided to dust off my rudder pedals, and the game decided they were now controller 1, lol.

Apart from the broken missions and some odds bugs with the hangars, it has been very good.

Which is all cool. I think SC is a very fine game for a certain type of player. (Particularly the 'tourists', the 'emergent gameplay providers', and the 'bug-puzzlers'. And all the shades in between.)

It's only when any of them try and extend that to 'game is de facto great' / 'this proves the game will be great' style proselytizing that issues start ;)

It's always been the same...play what it is and not what you imagine it is.

I still liked Dan's honest little reminiscence's through his screenshot story, because it reminded me of what I, personally, enjoy(ed) about star citizen...it also reminded me of a way too distant sense of positivity I felt when a few of us used to just bimble about doing nothing in particular without the disservice of having to struggle through increasingly curated and broken content just to please an audience or sucker some poor schmuck into paying for our gaming time. 🤷‍♂️

Screenshots are from around this time of year in 2018...Just another broken Xmas PTU :)

Perhaps more than you think. OA's latest video on SC was full of them in the comments.

If you think about it, it makes sense the marketing bots post on videos like that most, because posting on like Morph's or similar videos don't have much impact, its mainly fans already there. But OA likes to try and present as neutrally as possible, so draws a wide range of people to his videos, so there is more opportunity to rope people in with myths about how wonderfully stable the new patch is.

Why PvE servers would be good for SC, from a PvP player.

Oh no... A PvE player explains why PvE servers would be bad for SC

Oh wow, another PvE player also doesn't think its a good idea.

I'm suspicious... where are all these PvE players that don't want PvE servers coming from.

Oh... wait... someone just outed them as a PvP player based on one of their older posts. LOL

Well, any other opinions....

Great! An opportunity to test things.

Hold on...

Oh, its all apparently futile.

Ok, let's check in on how 4.0 is.

Good news everyone! Its great.

Oh...

Oh dear.

Ok, let's check in and see if some people are at least happy with Pyro in general. Did CIG get it right?

Ah... so basically CIG did a 180 on what they said it would be like. Colour me surprised!

For sure :)

Yeah the only thing I'd object to is that Dan is just picking up on his old proselytizing. (Come enjoy more ships than daddy Braben can provide, etc etc). His pretty pix spam and trip reports have always been in service of that as much as anything else.

(And it took a fair few bops on the head to get him to at least acknowledge and embrace the jank side of the tale previously ;))

He should like what he likes. But if he posts flurries of 'And then I stood by another rock, proving that the foundations are solid and the future is bright!', he should expect more bops ;)

Meh, this place is already an echo chamber of ED = good, SC = bad. I'm as guilty of the star citizen faithful bashing as much as anyone else...but stifling any squeaks of positivity from any and all breeds of star citizen player makes this just another reddit sub to my mind. I don't as a hard rule do the comparison thing with ED or it's development...on here or anywhere else... but I also won't grill someone for posting something I liked...and frankly, welcomed... just because some off the cuff and mildly unfavourable comparison was made with the Holy Relic itself.

This isn't Hallowed ground, nor should it be treated as such 🤷‍♂️

For sure. I'm just saying I find the former tribalism tedious. And think the second stuff deserves a bop ¯\(ツ)/¯

IE when someone rolls out the tired old bug fixing comes later, this is all normal line of argument re CIG's dev, I'll point out that they attempt to fix bugs on the regular, but a bunch of those attempts regress. Because that speaks to issues I'm interested in. SC's reality vs dream-anity ;)

As much as I simpathyze with your point of view, and as much I can enjoy an honest fan appreciation of SC like yours, I suspect Golgot is right:

That pic spam is anything but candid if you look at its track record. A not really too subtle attempt at spammy/trolly proselitizing 🤷‍♂️ We know Dan and he knows the thread :)

Either way and in practical terms this is quite simple: Those who think 9 threads in under 8 hours with around 80+ large size pics flooding 2 pages may constitute spam, please feel free to report of course. If you prefer to entertain it (I can understand it can also be fun), then "steady as she goes"!
