Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

This is rich. How much money that dev thinks CIG would have got if it had in fact announced back in 2012 that the game would still not be anywhere near finished by 2025, I wonder?

Someone should make a post about that on Spectrum.

I'm sure there would be the usual mental gymnastics along the lines of "I'm so glad we are now getting way more than was originally pitched" - without the slightest sense of awareness they haven't even got what was originally pitched.

Thread gave me a chuckle.

Also, lesser game? LOL

So many choice quotes:

And don't get me started on the ridiculous engineering loop

Have you tried it, lately? You might have to update your grudge.

Ah, another person who needs to update their grudge:

PTSD, I agree tho. People talking about how everything is slow in SC but damn, even just jumping from one point to another is damn boring in ED.

They haven't heard of SCO i guess.

A lot of the opinions people hold of ED are woefully out of date.

Its understandable though, when a game has flaws and people walk away, they often don't return to check it out and see if things have improved.

Doubtless I have a number of games I had issues with and stopped playing and then never checked back to see if things were any better.

Also, someone dunking on the flight model:

elite dangerous is a stale and shockingly shallow game with a flight model that makes master modes look like like a triumph of tactility and engagement

Which is interesting, because if there is often one thing SC backers often agree on is that ED's flight model is good.

Ah, and an interesting little exchange:

Someone with access want to let them know that you can, in fact, name your stations for ARX?

Ah, another, in relation to ED vs SC:

Concurrent player count was averaging less than 7,000 up until the third quarter. Star Citizen was definitely doing more than that unless you have hard data showing otherwise?

On the one hand we have public data about the number of players playing ED on Steam, which should be trustworthy, not counting the players not playing on Steam, on the other hand them making a claim without any reference to any source of numbers, not even pointing to CIG's own numbers, which are unverifiable.

SC average concurrency has never been at 7000 that we are aware of. The only reference we have about SC hourly concurrency figures comes from the Letters from the Chairman statement on total hours played. From that, on the last 2024 letter that mentions it at 36 million hours if memory serves, it could be calculated that SC concurrency was at around average 4000 or so. Down around 30% from 2022. And that is probably an exagerated figure since it comes from CIG with zero 3rd party verification.

By comparison Elite in Steam since the Trailblazers update is averageing 7000-8000 with a 13,000 peak last Sunday. And that is just Steam. The real concurrency if we add, the FDEV launcher, Epic and what remains in consoles is probably double that.

Yeah, and its clear since they didn't even try and back up their assertion they were talking out of their ass...ertion.

You can? Shut up and take my ARX!
I have my carrier loaded with most of the supplies but couldn't jump it yesterday. No time slots available.
Totally Un-play-able! :D

I only got a generic system name (Piscium Sector IW-W b1-2). I'm so jealous of that streamer I watch who snatched a named system near Nanabozho.

Unfortunately AFAIK it's only stations that can be named, not systems. But here's hoping.

Yup, on the forums there are arguments about whether systems should be namable, and it wouldn't surprise me if internally at FD there were not similar arguments, with the beancounters arguing for, and the support teams saying "Please, for the love of all that is holy, we don't want to moderate this!"

I'm sure third-party devs also don't want to deal with it. And old written articles will have the old names.

Still chuckling over the SC ship naming "feature".

Yeah, it's a great idea in theory but it would take a pretty sophisticated trained AI to deal with the inevitable nonsense if they didn't want to have a dedicated moderator. They would probably also want a submission process rather than just entering a name and clicking an accept button. Though there are enough salt derived names of Fleet Carriers out there already, with stations likely following quickly enough that maybe the horse has bolted and now it's just a matter of working out an Arx cost? I would imagine it would be quite expensive, and probably should be, to make it worth the hassle of approving names and stuff like that.

Magically unlootable gear coming to the Verse.

"Instead of creating a temporary system that would eventually need replacing," they call it T0 that will eventually need replacing.

Salty Cutlet:
CIG was delaying this as much as possible to get as much funds as possible from every type of players.
Now it is time to remove the pvp trash from the game and let normal people enjoy the space theme park.

Top comment points out the previous mantra of it being a full loot game is now gone.
