Knebel writes a Letter to the Chairman...

Decrying (in the politest possible terms) the 'fire sale' monetization of late, and how it lends weight to those nasties who suggests SC might be P2W and a scam ;)

1000 upvotes in 3 hours... (assuming the site hasn't glitched again ;))

But probably $100,000 spent in the store...
Just astonishing to me that players get outraged for this latest minor p2w exploit by CIG and let all the ships macro p2w pass as if it was... nothing. The cognitive dissonance must be horrendous.

To be very clear: any real-money purchases affecting core gameplay or progression should be avoided.
An MMO in which core progression can simply be bought with real money has no sustainable future.
This might work in mobile gaming, but for PC gaming and especially MMOs, it usually results in negative reviews, damaged trust, and diminishing player interest.
I can actually hear from here knebel´s cogs grinding, slamming the breaks and saying everything but the dreaded "the whole of SC is p2w".

The public roadmap appears minimally maintained, and the progress tracker feels largely abandoned. Currently, it is difficult to clearly understand the development priorities or how resources are allocated. Updates sometimes highlight features already well-known or even live for weeks.

Insider Gaming's latest gossip...

Nothing earthshaking in there, we know about all 3 departures. (And it feels odd to class producers as 'integral').

This bit is intriguing though...

Benoit is the most public Turb figure involved with SM

EDIT: Lol, all 3 of the leavers have now joined CCP / EVE projects 😁

Begging email to CIG to be better

No publishers, no external investors

What a dingbat, CIG are the publisher, they just don't take on the responsibilities of the publisher, they have absconded from those responsibilities. And there are external investors, there has been since the early days, and Calders and others are still in for over 50 million.

To the point, CIG have become what they said they would never become.

People who believe they're capable of faking a tracker for 11+ years have more faith in CiG than I do :D
Heh, that’s the thing, they aren’t. And given the opacity in financial information that is saying something. For example, the last blog has reasonable signs of double dipping expenses, which would mean revenues could be similarly inflated for the same bottom line.

It is just that people don’t care. As long as the tracker shows good numbers no one will question it much.

And it’s never going to show bad numbers, is it?

Wow, I didn't expect SlateTwerk17 to be a conspiracy theorist o_O

SC has had exactly that kind of relationship with IGN etc for over a decade. Loads of hosted trailers and purely loving launch coverage for patches etc.

The diminishing returns are because: You can't threaten to withhold access to your next game if you don't ever publish your first one...

Leaving the press freer to bad mouth you to their hearts content. And with good reason ;)

2k+ upvotes now and still gaining...that's highly unusual for spectrum

Personal advice, you want more money?

Make every ship available, lower their prices and watch the money roll in.

I was hoping he was going to answer that question with a "Make a good game.", alas, he uninspirely just suggests a different marketing approach using the same p2w status quo.

Haha, imagine for a second that they actually remember things like the land claims that were just an outright cash grab. :D A couple of posters in that thread were close to understanding how it works, seeing how things never really get much better, the game is never really any closer, but that it's just an endless queue of newly conjured up reasons to sell seemingly random items linked to random "popup" features no one asked for.

They'll complain, they'll stomp their feet, they'll say things like "CIG shouldn't be doing this", but soon enough, they will all be throwing money at CIG without a second thought.

To be fair, making a good game doesn't imply it will sell well. There's ton of examples of great games that failed commercially, and the other way around manure level games that sell like crazy.

Now, bragging about BDSSE, putting other games ever made to shame, yadda yadda imply that CIG HAS to provide a game at the level of quality they claim they will do. Hence the Schrödinger Mess Eternal Alpha.
