Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I wonder what the requirements for the game will be by the time it releases.
Why, haven't you heard the Holy Roberts?

Be advised though that you need a really big lulzbucket for the best experience.

Delete your user folder. :ROFLMAO:

Boy, i bet some people were wishing for a PvP slider right about now.

Apparently people are intentionally doing this to mess with the event. Good things its alpha!

You can hear the horns of the white knights blaring before you even get to the comments.

But this response cracked me up

Slightly more 30ks, but very stable!

Also, 16Gb not enough? Just throw another 16Gb in your comp! Truly a next generation game. Or maybe a game for the next-next-next generation.

16Gb isn't enough for SC, it's adequate for practically everything else but SC's poor programming and optimisation struggles...as for deleting your user folder...deleting the shaders sub folder usually suffices though not always.

I usually delete my user folder as a common practise for the PTU...then copy the newly created user folder along with my saved profile folder (has my HOTAS and custom key binds in it) into the patch when it goes live. If it works in PTU, it'll work in the live build.

Evening,
It may be a server thing as my PC is quite aged , 2nd gen i5 2550k (1151 & Z77 MB), 16Gb of ram and a newish Crucial SSD.
My network isn't ultra fast either at 30 odd Mb.
Mine seems to be more stable when it's running.

The only trading I tried in 3.12 was a load of diamonds that I couldn't then sell anywhere, which was rubbish.
On the plus side my helmet doesn't automatically remove itself when outfitting in the mobi-glas as it did sometimes in 3.12, not good in a cave or sorting a loadout out in open space.
I got used to pressing F4 to check before going out out.

I get downvoted heavily everytime i state the obvious on the cultist subreddit:

Well of course that mission is 100% scripted. I did it on sunday out of curiosity. Everything is completely on rails, with the same timers triggering after the same condition (cargo not fully transferred => spawn a piñataIdris and a few fighters, then on a timer spawn a few fighters in the cargo pickup area.. and that's it. A 3 line script.)
Cultists will insist it's "DYNAMIC" and "NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE". I didnt roll my eyes too hard on that reddit post but that's enough to trigger them apparently.

I didnt bother to respond to the guy who promises an "AI director" 10-15 years from now, as it's been done for example with great success in Left 4 Dead, which coincidentally is a great example of a dynamic content (the AI director of L4D will adapt to the players behavior and skills).

I think the funny part comes from maybe an assumption that user folder means your windows profile, or could be interpreted that way.

And knowing CIG, it wouldn't surprise me if this was a "fix" for something.

Mole have you hooked your coo's heeds up for storage? I think you get around 20tb per coo.
Unhooking the coo who has your user folder in it's heed will definitely solve this issue.

I find it's the interface that's the problem :) sheep don't work, I tried ...Baaaa....

Looking back at the old stretch goals is always fun. Especially fun when you consider backers voted to expand the scope AFTER some of these were already making the game 10x bigger than initially planned, and all were added (and the votes happened) before CIG decided to multiply the scope by a factor of 1000000 by adding fully landable planets before launch.

So, The Titanic over on SA brought this one up.

At just 13 million it will include this gameplay! Command and Conquer space strategy from your Idris or Destroyer!

Its worth noting that this comes after the 12 million stretch goal (i'll get back to this in a moment), so they effectively said for just 1 million they would add a new ship class (frigate) and add the C&C center.

Its hard to imagine CIG being able to do anything for a million these days. With 600 people working on SC that's like 2 week's of expenses for the company.

Anyway, back to the 12 million stretch goal and...

  • Build professional sound studios. We’ll move Star Citizen’s sound production from a home office to high tech facilities that will give us access to cutting edge sound effects and Hollywood voice talent!
  • The Hangar Module will feature Oculus Rift support.

Of course there is the Hollywood sound studio. To be honest, i have no idea if they ever did this. I guess so. They did after all build a mocap studio. But the Hangar Module will feature Oculus Rift support! Hmm.... not implemented as far as i know.

The stretch goals are full of this stuff, and no amount of backers crying they voted for increased scope can counter the fact that they promised to do all these things for a million here, a million there, but clearly were not capable of doing any of it for the numbers quoted.

Their annual spend is in the same ballpark as what they said they could deliver everything up to the 65 million stretch goal, which would be the BDSSE.

And another trip down memory lane, this one from 2016

Its amazing how little has changed... except we are now 4-5 years later and CIG have taken in a few hundred million more dollars. It also gives an interesting timeline and breakdown of stretch goals and points out what was sold to backers (the belief that if another million is pledged it will add a specific new feature) wasn't actually what was happening (or as we can now see with hindsight, what didn't happen).

I am loving these top-voted questions:

YOU HAVE RUINED THE IDRIS - GIVE IT TO ME NOW said:
With XenoThreat & Arlington, the hype & surprise of the Idris/Javelin and their combat performance is now spoiled. Given the NPC Idris and Javelin are now out there for players to 'see in the wild' as part of these events, as well as numerous CIG walkthroughs of the Idris (and copious leaks/glitching to pilot the ship as well), the 'S42 spoiler blocker' is well and truly nullified. What is the current justification for those ships to be NPC-only rather than backer too?

Justification for question's inclusion: My concern is that now a large amount of hype (built up over years of holding the ships back) has now been wasted, as I know of a number of 'prospective owners' no longer bothered about owning the ships. In preparation for 'It's not complete yet, check the roadmap' - particular attention should be drawn to the fact the Idris' only remaining room back in 2016 was the missile room, and all other ships such as the Gladius recieve continual development as/when required and is already released for backers to experience, even in a partial feature-state Reclaimer, Caterpillar, 890J, Prospector, etc

it looks like the capital npc pilots have uncanny reflexes moving huge ships up and down like any other figher., is this intended? or is this an artifact due to the lack of quanta on PU?

While fighting the Idris, there is a lot of support ship helping it. They tend to have very strange behavior.

Is it normal that those support ship are able to change direction randomly and start spinning around?
