Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I do wonder what they're up to : I thought the plan was 'PES, then server meshing', and ppl keep saying that PES is done - so where is the server meshing? (And no, they don't need Pyro to test it - they could just split Stanton in two to start testing).

The interesting thing about them mostly doing AC updates in 3.20 is that they said updating AC was easier because 'they don't have to worry about PES', so ... is PES actually working? Or is it b0rked and blocking updates? It will be fun when ppl get to see Master Modes etc in AC and want it in the PU - will it be like the famed SQ42 Starmap - another 'coming to the PU "eventually"' feature 🤔
Server meshing isn't gonna happen and they have to invent a reason for that and alternative tech that will save the daycade.

Got to be Pyro and/or SQ42 vids at least, even if neither of those is anywhere near to delivery. Selling bullshots and dreams is CIG´s main core business, so I would be surprised if they screw up this one.

LOL. CIG made models of such high detail (fidelity) they future-proofed it... but its gone on so long the future-proofing is running out.

Also, bringing up Cyberpunk as an example of how it should be done. Priceless, that will get some faithful raging.
A little late to this but that video is weird.

"...it means that ships in star Citizen likely won't require visual update for quite sometime, if ever... render pipeline, complex shader and post-rocessing features can be upgraded without rebuilding all the game's functional assets."

He shows what newer versions of Unreala dn Unity can do and bring up Cyberpunk 2077 as an example of how graphics and performance could be improved a lot by adding DLSS 3 support, with little change to the game. Super easy, barely an inconvienience like flipping a switch. Later on he praised Star Citizen for its 100+ ships and what players will be focusing on in the mean time, saying how "incredible fidelity" in Star Citizen is great and future proof and could accomodate future tech easier than low poly models.

Forgetting that at least a few ships had been redesigned and remade to fit in the new fidelity.

"...but with a game as big as Star Citizen a remaster can take forever if you had to remake many of the assets, it would basically make it impossible or atleast not worth the effort..."

Isn't that why its taken them 10 years so far?

"...Star Citizen had been manually updating certain aspects of its visual as they become more outdated, the character models has already gone through several updats to make them more realistic, but there's still many areas of the persistent that feel clunky and outdated, due in my opinion to lighting systems and level of detail issues..."

One moment fidelity is future proof and CIG wouldn't have to redesign the game to remaster it, the next, they've been doing that all along.
It says a lot, but contradicting. I'm wondering if this is a passive agressive way of calling out CIG's B$.

I mean, it's just standard YT/fan babble. But yeah, ignoring the fact that CIG have remade a ton of their ships wholesale (just for reasons other than render tech parity etc), they force their art teams over a wheel of render update reworks constantly...

It doesn't matter that they're not 'rebuilding' the ships top to bottom in those cases. It's still an endless time-sink of asset updates just to keep a playable alpha treading water...

(PS, all YTers are horrible self-promoters and you should ignore them ;))

There's always a new tech that is required to make the good stuff work.

The biggest graphical oof Star Citizen has from being elderly is the performance capture for their random celebs for Squander 42 was done back in what feels like the dark ages for that now, that field saw the most rapid advancement of any aspect of vidya over the last decade. That will be hard to improve without getting them to come in and re-shoot everything and I don't know if they're all still available. While imo it doesn't matter, those certainly aren't going to be industry-leading FIDELITY.
