Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Chris giveth.

Also Chris...

Another day. Another unplayable day.

I am fortunate to work from home and run my own business. Which means I mostly have SC on while working and switch in and out. So TLDR I’m on all the time. Maybe not playing. But on.

Since Pyro dropped the servers on Live have been a complete shambles. Basically unplayable during the day time. Until the evening which I used to hate as it used to be way worse than the day but not seems to be the opposite. I have timed it and improvements correlate to the Pyro test finishing for the day.

Guess I’ll just have to do more work..but I’m really hoping this doesn’t go on for too long as 5+ 30ks, ships not loading and assets vanishing / not loading bunkers etc is rather irritating.

Even with Pyro on a separate build, everything is meshed ;)

Just buy a new ship ;)

I did that when the ROC went missing. And then CIG made some "mitigations" on the database, now I got two.

I wouldn't mind having two Prospectors with different loadouts. Mining is one of the more detailed parts with different heads, modules, gadgets and multiple types of rocks. Count on miners to have spreadsheets, too.

But when you can't even name ships and their order is randomized every time, it makes little sense to have more than one of each type.

Oh, did you mean "buy a ship DLC"? Nah, that would be easy mode cheating

This shows you exactly how CIG works internally.

The dot should've been projected from the emitter below the barrel in a straight line, because that's how light works.
It's where Star Citizen's fidelity and immersion's at.

But then the people responsible for the functional design are adamant that it needs to be in the center of the viewfinder/scope on top of the barrel.
So now the dot of the laser is put there, because that's the only way your work gets approved.

And then there's the requirement of Chris to make it look smooth and slick.
Thus they've put in the work to use a spline to generate the geometry for the laser itself.

Now realize that they go through this circus for every single feature in the game.

Never been done before...for good reason
I imagine the only real use for them on sniper weaponry would literally be on some kind of laser weapon itself, where the beam has two power modes.

If you're going to use them in a game with spaceships though, think bigger, laser painter target designators hooked up to the targeting systems of fighter-bombers making a suborbital pass.

As an aside, the MMO which basically occupied my entire 20s introduced a combination of these features in 2007's big PvP expansion which added target designation for orbital weaponry mounted aboard satellites other squads of players needed to fight over and take control of for you to use. :D

Take note, Star Citizen.
