Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Is SC worth buying into in it's current unfinished state? I don't really follow it very closely but I'm curious how its shaping up.
Lolno.

Buy it when it is released, and not a second before. Your money will not be put to good use if you give it to CI¬G before that (nor, most likely, after).
Actually, yes. Definitely one decade at minimum after this release.

I strongly recommend said title as it not only has a proven track record, but will do everything SC can and much, much more.

You're welcome

I'd say honestly, from the standpoint of being a long term backer of Star Citizen... avoid it at all costs unless you're prepared to shell out cash to support a project that's never going to be more than it is now.
Ouch. Hard to believe that this is what 349 million and counting has gotten everyone. I just ordered a brand new high end Virpil HOTAS system and was hoping to get my space pew pew on in a new game. Guess I'll just dust off my old stable of ships in ED instead:(

If CR really cares about his fan base, he would consider adding monetary compensation for a mental health charity. Because Joe Blobers has to be the most fanatical, deluded and rabid fan boi zealot disciple a franchise has ever produced to date.

Despite the fact his prolific posting is considerably down from over the dozen+ posts in the comment section 6 months ago

to the streamlined 5 posts here some 8 hrs ago....

The stark difference this time around is the tsunami of anti SC sentiment they're having to grapple with. More than 50% of the ppl posting as of today have had or experienced some sort of a come to Jesus moment. Are no longer drinking the Pied Piper's Kool Aid, or had a combination of both. And have literally said as much to Blobers. Yet Blobers disturbingly soldiers on...

Found this out the hard way when I made the mortal mistake of trying to rationalize with this person sometime after CitizenCon 2019. It was in the Disqus comment section of another gaming article (might have been IGN forget which). Blobers not only made a point of rebutting/answering every. Single. Comment posted by EVERYONE in that comment section, but he added me to his list for future stalking as well. o_O And made his profile private for obvious reasons (i.e. allowing him to tag along and casually drop in/post in non SC topics) when I was commenting on Disqus. This personality took the creepy cyber stalker trope to the next level. After half a month of this crazy, I had to end up deleting my Disqus profile just to get rid of him o_O And that was the tip of the iceberg, because they surfaced with the same obsessive stalker behavior in the comment sections of other gaming/tech articles like PC gamer, reddit, IGN etc. as well. This gamer has become the web version of the Candyman Bogeyman.

It's probably best CR keeps the Dreams.txt for as long as he possibly can. Ideally beyond that of Joe Blobers lifetime if possible. Because I'm completely convinced the most fanatically faithful of the SC fan base will end up in one of these places once SC's siren song finally ends:
  1. on a shrink's couch undergoing extensive therapy
  2. In prison for attempting more than suicide
  3. in a white padded cell inside a straight jacket in Bellevue
  4. on a gurney inside the ER or ICU
  5. on a slab in a body bag in the morgue
  6. in a funeral home casket
  7. six foot under

Given the degree of complete delusion and psychotic online behavior displayed so far, Blobers is increasingly likely not going to end up within lightyears of the first three o_O
There was a rumour a few years ago that Joe Blobbers was an alt account for someone of note...I'd suggest it was no more that, a rumour ;)

I've got over 4000 hours in Horizons, so many hours that I burned out and quit playing at least a couple years back, so not new to the scene, but thanks for the suggestion regardless. As I said in my previous post I might consider getting back into it again as I imagine quite a bit has changed. I am curious though how Odyssey is going to handle with a HOTAS.

If you want to use the sticks, try Vendetta Online, crazy dogfights, skills transfer and when you’re ready for SC, you can fight pretty similar. Shameless plug, eventhough I haven’t played it for years, but I’m drunk so, happy new year 😁

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my time in Star Citizen and have done for quite a long time...there's bits of a working space game underneath all the politics, predatory marketing and lies that surround it...but truly, as a backer, you have to understand the realism of what it may amount to, where it is currently and where your cash is actually going...and the reality of Star Citizen isn't worth any amount of cash you could throw at it.

You'd be far better served throwing your money into a fire whilst looking at a photo of Chris Roberts.

Well I took the bait. Hyper jumped to the one forum in the Sol solar system that would undoubtedly provide clarity on your subliminal messaging:

God help us if what Dadskitchen was suggesting continues to be true o_O

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...my new year celebrations got underway...proper seasonal ground covering of heavy sleet...

I have to say that after my recent ship upgrading experience, I do prefer the way ships in Star Citizen are designed for specific tasks. I think it's much better than Elite's generalist one-ship-can-do-anything approach. Elite's best passenger ship should be the Beluga, instead it's fourth behind the Corvette (notionally a 'combat' ship!), the Cutter, and the absurd made-from-unicorn-farts Anaconda.

Having made, in hindsight, the bad decision to buy two exploration ships in a game with no exploration, it was interesting to have to look through all the various ships to determine which would be suitable for the tasks SC was capable of and that I intended to try. In the end I traded my useless Aurora and superfluous 315p for what appears to be a much more useful Cutlass. I think with the Cutlass it will be much easier to squeeze what value I can out of what I have pledged to CIG before it all falls in a heap. I kept the Mustang partly because I didn't want to leave $35 in store credit floating around, but mostly because I just really like it for some reason.

There are pluses and minuses to each approach, and i won't say one is better than the other, at least in terms of a released product.

The rub here is that with SC in its current state, you can't buy a ship with in game money and keep it through wipes. If you want to be able to do mining whenever you want, then you have to give CIG money. If you want a decent combat ship, you have to give CIG money.

Its a bit better these days since wipes are a lot less frequent, but go back a year or two and there was no way to buy ships in game and wipes were frequent.

The last wipe where you lost ships you bought in game has got to be more than a year ago now.

If you bought a ship with in game money in 3.8 you still have it. Unless it bugged out. It has been a lot better with ships than parts though.

a year or two

Also, regardless, those ships are going to get wiped sooner or later. Its just a matter of when. And the less frequent the wipes are, the more salt there will be when CIG eventually do a wipe.

Unless as part of CR's "playable narrative" now there will be no more intentional wipes. But in that case, they might want to not announce it, since that might impact funding.

They have said there will be more wipes. If I had to guess, it would be when iCache comes in. But it isnt like they are wiping every other week. I've "grinded" to buy ships in game for an alt. Won't be too bothered when they get the axe.

You are you. What about the unwashed masses who are joining based on CR's playable now narrative?

Some simple things like crashing can be a whole enjoyable experience in SC.

All and all, this pretty much matches my experiences with Star Citizen and CIG to date: blatant dishonesty used to sell a non-existent game for way too much money.

This pretty much sums the CIG´s selling angle nicely. Sad thing is that some backers are just being manipulated unknowingly into the same habit.

As an aside and since you insist in comparing experiences... "crashing/being rescued in a game being a enjoyable experience" has obviously never been done before. Raw and uncut to boot:

If you still have some doubts I can get you just a couple fuel rats or hull rats testimonials too if you wish.

Edit: Just saw LA was not arguing the point as an exclusive of SC.

Found a new video...apologies if everyone has seen it...

...And another new vid on a completely different tack, covering what I like to class as my day job in Star Citizen. Mikey boy, rather than just talking about Star Citizen has brought out a new mining guide for the 3.12 patch...it's pretty good and on point and from someone who mines a lot like I do, especially explaining the complexity of using consumables, different mining laser types, mining locations, best to mine deposits, refining, Prospector/Mole builds and the like...
