Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/18167-Star-Citizen-Monthly-Report-May-2021

Some interesting titbits in the monthly report

  • Work wrapped up on the Super pCache for the next release, while new services such as the AI info and NPC creation services were iterated on. The stability of systemic services was also improved for Invictus, allowing the team to handle player concurrency without taxing the services.
  • progress was made on server meshing, with emphasis on a new hybrid service that will accommodate the feature’s needs.
  • Pyro pretty much there and Nyx focus for planetary team
  • Work on jump point space scaping as moved to specifics with gas cloud setup for said locations
  • Hospitals for medical gameplay is finished up for New Babbage and now working on other landing zones ready for medical gameplay updates in following patches
  • Final art for NPC/Player outposts set 1 and are working on high level design for set 2 at moment
But yeah, also roadmap updated with a number of things moved to committed

  • Power Management v2
  • Canvas Sliced Ship HUDs
  • Law System v2: Surrender
  • Radar, Scanning, and Ping
  • Missile Operator Mode
  • Missiles – Guidance & Control Rework
  • GEN12 aka vulkan is nearly done. they converted some of teh rendere to gen12 now and the remaining work is scheduled to be done by 3.15 patch(basically gen12 scheduled until september 2021)
  • New Quantaum travel mechanics going to start to be developed to make it more physicalised and better effects and performance. This is quite a large task

pCache now eh?

So, they've taken the i and added the p.

Well, they've been taking the p for a long time, so its only fair.

Oh pCache, the thing that iCache is supposed to supersede, because it doesn't work with server meshing? Super...

What happened to iCache anyway? Would think that'd be right at the forefront of all the wrapping and iterating...

TRANSLATION: Turbulent are starting afresh on server meshing... 😄

That would be a fascinating thing for them to claim, given it seems to need at least 'baby server meshing' to be delivered.

But where do they say that in the report? The only Pyro mentions I can see are:

So you're thinking because they're working on Nyx, Pyro is done as 'art'? (If not as 'game' ;))

Ach, no rush anyway, the first jump gate system is only getting on for 4 years late ;)

As usual, don't believe that anything is coming until it actually comes.

Its easy for CIG to talk about the things they are doing with Pyro and Nyx and build expectation they are coming only to come up with an excuse why it isn't later on (and then follow it up with another ship sale!).

How many times have they actually teased Pyro to backers now? I've lost count.

I've been jabbing about Turbulent and their ever-increasing responsibilities for years now, but obviously everyone already knew circa 2018 Turbulent would be taking over more and more responsibility, none of my leaks are ever true and if they are I'm just lucky and everyone knew about them anyway.

Not as far as I can see, pcache will seemingly now be replaced by 'super-duper-fidelicious-P-cache' according to the notes....no mention of icache at all ;)
Icache doesn't have a card on its own, it's under the 8 "Persistent Streaming and Server Meshing" cards.
Some works must be done to switch from the pcache to icache, so you will still hear about it for some time.

See the coin? See these cups? I cover the coin with one of the cups. Now keep your eye on the cup with the coin under as i move them around and around. Now, which cup is the coin under?

What's that sir? Yes, you who i've clearly never met before in my life and don't know at all! The third cup? Why yes! Congratulations, you're a winner!

Now, let's do it again. Watch the cups as they go round and round! Anyone like to make a little wager with me on which cup its under? Yes, you sir, the one with the gullible face! You saw how easy it was to guess which the coin was under. I'll wager you an Idris on whether you get it right!

In other news, was watching SaltEMike earlier and the topic of Rexshilla came up and someone said he stopped playing because his contract with CIG was up. Mike dismissed that idea and when i spoke up saying it was highly suss considering he streamed for almost excatly a year it sent Mike off on one about how Rex stopped streaming and left for Facebook because Twitch had shut down an exploit to do with faking numbers watching.

Now, i don't know if this is true, but Mike presented some quite compelling information about how you used to be able to cheat the viewer numbers by embedding some code on another side and getting that site to invisibly and silently play (at 1% volume) to people looking at the website. So, the accusation goes that Rex had this code embedded on a popular website where visitors would be counted by Twitch as his viewers. That's why despite having many "viewers" on his streams the chat was amazingly quiet.

Goons noticed this about his stream early on and suspected he was using view bots.

Anyway, apparently his stopping of streaming SC coincided with Twitch shutting down this exploit. Apparently he took a 1 or 2 week break and then make a final farewell stream with just 200 viewers, before he jumped to playing CoD on Facebook. And Mike say that Facebook is well known for being able to cheat viewing numbers.

Now, assuming all this is true, just think about how many people were encouraged to buy into SC based on his promotion of the game. Based on his own false projection of popularity. His hyping of the game and claims of how he was willing to spend all his money on SC.

When, if true, he was actually only hyping it in order to fatten his own wallet.

I mean, if true, it means Rex is a scammer and really should be facing some sort of legal issues for exploiting people and false representation... but i guess the law in this area is well behind what can be done with technology.

See the OCS ? See the client ? Now keep your eye on the client while I move it inside. Bam ! Big boost in fps...

Too many assumptions...RexShilla was a product of his own shouty little world of Twitch. He was never that popular either as a player or streamer of SC...not enough to go influencing any significant number of potential backers outside of his relatively small circle of regular viewers anyway 🤷‍♂️

icache will certainly do nothing visible at first so no. icache is mainly needed for server meshing and better cache service, it's a silent service.

How dare you call Christopher Roberts' dream of permanent coffee cup placement nothing!

Will you eat a sock at the Pyro release ?

Hell no. I think it will come.

I will continue to laugh at how incredibly late it is though. We're looking at at least 5 years after the initial roadmapping of 4.0 jump points. Just... not... good.

And I'm definitely gonna find whatever networking solution they use to shovel it out amusing too. What do you reckon? Bog standard locational instancing by 2022?
