Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Actually, it probably does add up. I doubt the dev's are lazy, it's probably just a horrible spagetti-mess code base that makes it nigh impossible to work with. This is why they keep "refactoring" the code and wasting even more time.

All of that is probably because it's complete foundation is janky code mess that was built from Chris' own coding attempts. Harsh but probably true.
I think he means the team size doesnt add up from what is shown on the roadmap. At least it doesnt add up to 500, or even 300 for that matter...
And yeah CE is notoriously bad to work with, not even mentioning the hacks they have added to it so it can support 64 bit coordinate space.

I think CIG posted that picture a number of weeks ago. Crusader clouds are tentative in the 3.14 roadmap.

Yea, but it that Crusader or Hurston? Crusader is a gas giant, i mean there will never be a station floating in Jupiter's atmosphere, you cannot get that close to a gas giant and even if you did it would not be that hospitable... but hey, its Science Fiction so artistic licence is ok.

When i first saw that my immediate thinking was Hurston, if the planetary volumetric cloud tech is in and working it can be applied to all planets. And probably will.

Ok thanks, looks nothing like a Gas Giant, but it does look good, can't wait to see it from Olisar and Orison.
Well it looks good, somewhat like some artistic renderings of gas giant clouds from low or even bit like real images:

I've always wondered where these figures come from.

The amount of $$$ income, and supposed number of customers, would make me think that there should be at least a small amount of mainstream market penetration by SC but that appears not to be the case. SC has the quietest customer base of all time... Spectrum, a few on Reddit, tiny number of YouTube & Twitch creators...
Other than Joe Blobers and others of his ilk, the cult has retreated from the mainstream after all this time with no progress to speak of.

Somone having fun like me ;)
Oops, forgot it's not something important to have fun...

Amazing! Someone who is a big fan of SC asks the question if its a scam and decides it isn't! And the basis for this is he's having fun.

Well, colour me surprised!

Unfortunately, this isn't a good argument.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, CR is indeed on the take, siphoning off large amounts of money, and he doesn't have any plans to finish the game. He's just riding it out along with Ortwin. Meanwhile, players are enjoying what is there while saying "It can't be a scam! I'm enjoying the game!"

Does that mean its not a scam? And then let's imagine, there comes a point where CR writes a letter saying SC development is shutting down. They tried, but the tech just wasn't there yet! Not to mention how its all the goons/backers/someone else's fault. Before riding off into the sunset with the piles of money he took out of the project.

And then, do backers say "Well, it wasn't a scam, because i enjoyed it!"

Now, just to make sure i'm clear here, i don't think it is a scam in the sense that CIG/CR is doing to to take money from backers without delivering a product. I'm sure CR wants with all his heart to make the game of his dreams.

I will agree it has aspects of a scam though based on how CR has clearly lied multiple times over the years to backers in order to keep the funding going. I mean, what do you call something where the boss has intentionally and repeatedly lied about the state of a product to those giving money if not a scam? I struggle to find a better word for it.

When asking whether SC is a scam, its worth keeping in mind that a scam doesn't always mean an obvious one or one where no product is delivered. Theranos was a scam without a delivered product, and i still don't know if Elizabeth Holmes was really trying to make a product or not. Fyre Festival was a disaster in management, but not an intentional scam, and they tried to deliver... something. But it was still a scam. Maybe Billy was so egotistical he thought he could still deliver right up to the end, but there were other people involved who must have known it couldn't be delivered. Chronicles of Elyaria was also a scam in hindsight (and with a bit of foresight as well), but in the early days people would shout down those who called it a scam.

Sometimes scams are not the product of malicious intent. Sometimes they just grow out of mismanagement, egotisical leaders, and other negative traits, that ultimately lead the project into its downfall.

And even should CIG succeed in delivering something approximating a good stable released product, it still doesn't clear its history or validate it. CR still lied to backers many times and he continues to lie to this day.

If you are a backer and you are fine with that, if you excuse it away, then don't complain when one day someone takes you for a ride and you lose a lot of money.

Patch after patch, day after day, the scam flavour fade away !

Gone the happy times of the vapourware, luckily alpha is still in disrepair.

CR lies low, will he deliver Pyro ?

Yeah bruh, Pyro definitely coming. Since "early 2020" with 4.0. Now mid to late 2021, on December 24th 2021 will be early 2022, then.. you get the picture.

Not like they've done this before or anything

Some people deserve to be scammed.

Another year gone, more deadlines missed. Pyro still enshrined in mist.

Networking stuck at the drawing board stage. Surely the new devs can free its blades!

Yet still CIG hoover in the lolly. Now here’s a new feature: shopping trollies!
