a new "Hello" from @WotGTheAgent on SomethingAwful
  • expect a tonal shift regarding release dates and additional features
  • this means things will be "coming online" when they are ready and not at the "tier 0" we have seen them
  • "We want players to experience the mechanics as we envision them, not as we implement them." (?????)
  • SQ42 supposedly undergoing a huge push for release but encountering some issues
  • These issues include mostly gameplay but also have serious problems with animation, lighting and texture fidelity
  • Mocap data having to be "recleaned" at a very high cost in manhours but with little real progress
  • Other problems include VA and story changes
  • New VAs and actors have been brought in to replace key roles (been hearing this for in ever)
  • "It's a tough turd [SQ42] to expel. Very tough. [laughs] It is not coming out. It is staying in Chris's ole for the foreseeable future."
  • A SQ42 "demo" (aka highly scripted) is making the rounds internally due to investor pressure
  • Backers will see more and more of this demo this year and next
  • This demo retreads a lot of previously shown things, including the "not-a-joke" sandworm
  • Base building completely on hold for now, expected date is sometime in 2025 (yikes)
  • An initial "plot" claim will be hopefully available before then, allowing the player to set their own Hab spawn point from that location
  • These will NOT be freely set, but part of the pre-built game world (no building your own bases it sounds like)
  • Overall ship balance is not even being considered until sometime in the neat future
  • Over 50 (!!!) ships going up for sale over the next few years (this will include variants, so probably not so bad)
  • Server meshing is still dead, with no additional updates from the team besides "It's coming along and making progress."
  • This progress means 50 to 60 players on a server with better tick rates, but no additional "true" MMO features
  • Trading between players is a key focus going forward, as some rare items can be bought for real money and then traded for UEC
  • These will include upgrade components and AI crewmates
  • "It's not a 'gatcha' thing, it's not. It's more like a unique way of saying, 'I am a Captain of these exceptional crew.' You know them. You've heard of them. Verse-famous."
  • Crafting is another key focus
  • Parts will be rare but can be salvaged
  • Salvage is not a key focus (lol)

Good to know the sandworm is still not a joke!

Also, good to see that my request to have my SA account deleted was completely ignored by the support staff. That level of incompetence is part of why that place turned into such a godawful cesspool.

The first two points are already a reality...according to Rich Tyrer who mentioned those very things word for word when last seen on ISC :)

Btw does spectrum ban mean ban from the game too?

Not yet. However, two things to consider.

1) CIG plan to fully integrate Spectrum into SC.

2) When CIG ban someone currently there is a really ominous message which is "this will not affect your access to the game at this time"

In other words, they do want, and probably expect, to be able to give in-game bans at some point in the future for saying things CIG don't like on the forums.

Nightrider is probably wetting himself thinking about this.

Shame the GDPR doesn't apply in the USA.

Ooof, i can see the patch notes becoming thinner and thinner.

Part about investor pressure also interesting. Backers are so happy there are no "publishers" pushing for delivery, yet they celebrated the Calder investment without understanding that it was exactly the same thing as having a publisher. Someone who expects results and profit.

lol, that place has always been a cesspool. thats like its thing.

So the new system meant to being in the works for years (and claimed for years as right around the corner) by a company with 700+ staff is actually in the hands of a contractor's team of 20?

It is ToW all over again.

BTW, I have an idea for a new gameplay loop and profession in Star Citizen - Mocap Data Cleaner. If CIG can achieve so much moneys with "crowdfunding", maybe they will finally finish cleaning those mocaps using crowdcleaning.

It seems like CIG outsource a lot of their important stuff.... ToW, new planetary systems, and IIRC, Turbulent are also working on server meshing or something relating to it.

What CIG actually do other than make ships and do mocap isn't quite clear.

This has been the plan since 2020, Turbulent was always supposed to be responsible for the creation of Systems

Authentic or not, this is what I've assumed for the past year. People who really believed SQ42 development ACTUALLY spent a year barely progressing at all with over 600 employees weren't thinkin' straight.

Hmm.. who wasn't thinking straight now?

I just want it to release before summer 2021, after that I won't be able to play video games for a few years...

Ooopsie.
