Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I really count from 2.0. Up until then they were still learning what they needed to build. That was their first stab at the PTU. They began a very intensive redesign process based on their learnings with the 2.0 PTU and effectively rebuilt the thing from the ground up starting with the Item 2.0 work. That was when they realized the need for the custom toolsets, like the Planet Editor, Building Blocks, Data Forge, etc. and invested heavily in getting those built out and integrated. To me that was the real start of development on what we are playing now, when they finally had a master architecture to work from. I think of 1.x and before as exploratory work.

2.0 came out Dec. 11th 2015, so I think of it as a little over 6 years of development on the actual PU. I'm not White Knighting here, I'm just looking at the time to develop the thing we're actually playing.

You can argue that the exploratory phase should be counted, in which case it would go back to about mid 2013, making it about 8.5, but they had very little staff and hadn't really settled on a vision at that time, so in terms of complaining about whether it's taking too long or not I look at it from the point where they figured out where they were going, and that started with 2.0.

Over the last few weeks, tens of thousands of players flocked to notable drug labs
Still a small active playerbase then.

Elite, NMS and EVE are like "but we have tens of thousands of players per hour".

Per fortnight isn't so bad. Although I suspect it's lower than the 3k per hour SC was getting in 2020; if such stats were higher in 2021 then CIG would be broadcasting it to ship-buyers everywhere.

Please buy an Idris.

How many players do you think you would get in elite for an open only event specifically designed to encourage pvp?

10? 11? 🤣

"I'm not White Knighting here"

Of course he isn't! He's just misrepresenting facts and history to try and present the development of SC in better light!

By all means, totally ignore things like CIG having loads of contractors on board from the start. CR's own statements on when they started development and their plans for release. Only counting development from the year after the initially planned release date for SQ42.

The mental gymnastics on display are outstanding.

Hah, Thylbana Nyx in there gaslighting as normal. Claims production didn't start until 2013, despite CR's own statements on the matter and falls on the "post link or you're not right" when someone brings this up. Unfortunately the other doofus didn't actually post the relevant quotes and instead got into a "no u" battle.

Oh, if you dig down, then they do, then they get into an argument about what CR "really" meant.

Fortunately others reply with the quotes as well

Star Citizen, already 12 months into production, will be launched on the PC and will include all the Chris Roberts hallmarks that fans of his games have come to expect over the years: high quality cutting-edge visuals and technology, a virtual world that is immersive and detailed, a sophisticated storyline that is wide in scope and visceral, heart-pounding space combat.

Thylbana declined to reply to those people. I wonder why....

Bleedin heck.... more mental gymnastics from another

Production means searching for funding and pre-organizing the processes, not development.

Not only trying to retcon history but also redefine words. They truly have learnt from CIG.

Response

Only on here could someone make something up entirely off the top of thier own head and quote it with such certainty

:ROFLMAO:

So they replaced the project in 2015/2016 but managed to do so so efficiently and rapidly that they could advertise the imminent release of this replacement toward the end of 2016?

Hah, indeed.

I always counted it from the end of Kickstarter since without its funding this project would likely not have happened. So Oct of 2012. Pre production is meaningless and was nothing more than a tech demo.

Funny, because CR didn't present the development at that point as a tech demo. He presented it as though they actually had some sort of working game.

I count the journey differently, since around 2015 they realized everything had to be essentially scrapped because it wouldn't fit the new vision of the game,.. so I count from 2016 on,.. so we are somewhat starting the 6th year of development.

Answer the Call 2016. Answer the Call 2017. How can it be they scrapped everything then? Again, just totally ignoring all statements by CIG to fit their worldview. And even if true, scrapping 4+ years of work, millions of dollars of backers money's worth, after telling people how wonderful things were going, how they were on track for release, is actually much worse than just having spent that time working on it.

Remember guys and gals, Star Citizen is the only thing in history for which the past is uncertain and unknowable and the future is fixed and known.
