Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I've been playing SC for a couple of weeks now to get a space game fix since departing ED last year (still read the forums etc, there's always hope). Anyway SC has been pretty enjoyable so far, seems like there's more or less a similar amount to do as ED so far. It very much reminds me of the small bubble beta that ED had, which tbh is fine as i do actually think it's going to start to continue to improve.

I would presume you are better qualified for the job, please join CIG and give us a proper flightmodel!
I am and I will not, the pay they are offering is laughable, and everything points at a rotten work environment. I paid, a long time ago, unreasonable amounts of money for a video game, and what was promised (Newtonian physics) is still not being delivered, instead I'm getting even more useless fluff and handwavium, while the core game engine stays broken beyond belief. The bug that was shown from my previous reply is completely unacceptable for a half billion dollar product that had 10 years of development done on it.

Again, semantics, but, by definition this is a video game
Well it's not is it, you and a lot of cultists usually are quick to point out it's only the alpha of video game. So is it alpha, or is it a game, because these are two very different things, and one is a complete, reviewable product, while the other allows people to test the limits of an engine by giving them development tools and specific scenarios that are definitely not meant to be real game loops.

Well, people have been saying that for... checks notes ... 10 years.

Good luck!
Yeah I guess, I backed it 10 years ago (golden ticket and all that) but only installed it 3 weeks ago. I've not kept up with it's development or read their forums or anything, literally installed 3.16 and played it. I guess from that position it's just a newly released game that looks like it's getting better as it moves forward, I'm not carrying 10 years of wait with me 😂

If you can't interact physically with limpets, they are just animation and could be replaced by a beam with no change to the gameplay.
Can you shoot, block or capture a refuelling limpet ?
You really dont play Elite at all do you?

I mean, I only try SC when Saturn aligns with Mars and Earth (I can actually do that in Elite btw) but you will not see me very often debating on specific SC in game mechanics for that very reason either.

I suggest you consider doing the same else you lose any credibility you have left whenever you talk about Elite features?

Chris Roberts and CIG in general have been historically very opportunistic with their statements in these kind of occasions. Thing is those statements rarely lead to an actual delivery but the funds generated due to the hype is never refunded.

Not sure if it will happen but I would not be very surprised if CR or CIG now drop some kind of hint or statements suggesting there may be a remote possibility SQ42 be ported to consoles.

Yeah, fair enough, hence the recommendation to stop commenting on the detail of Elite in game specific features given you basically do not know them.
But just lol !
You find plenty of guys here commenting about SC without having installed the game !
I've made what a lot do here, just look at an ED player video to see how refueling is done. And for what I've found, it's target the ship + click, nothing more.

My question about physical limpet was genuine and doesn't change the way refuel works in ED : target + click

My comment was about you often commenting about Elite in game specific features without knowing them. That is bad. Commenting about public facing events such as public CIG or Chris Roberts statements, lack of delivery, delays, roadmaps shrinking to the quantum realm and wasted funds is probably much more fair game for anyone just reading the news.

Also FDEV's mismanagement of ED has its own poopstorm threads in other places on this forum, and criticizing CiG doesnt preclude criticizing FDEV, for different reasons. It's not a zero-sum game. There are plenty good things to play with this year (from DCS new study-level aircraft, to Elden Ring and HZD: Forbidden West for example) without having to suffer on either of them.

The differences are:

  • You kept insisting that your hot take was objectively true. (Despite not knowing all the details, as demonstrated)
  • The SC feature in question is only accessible via videos right now. (So fans and observers can judge it in isolation to the same degree).
  • You’re not discussing context for either mechanic. (In SC’s case the re-used core mechanic is still a buggy WIP, and the supporting gameplay systems are still missing. In ED they’re both established and robust, so improve the experience of using the mechanic).

And of course there’s the bonus difference, where this conversation started ;)

  • Nobody charged anyone $300 9+ years ago for the ED refuelling mechanic... (And then spiked further sales by roadmapping its addition multiple times…)
