It's only just struck me that the first two letters of scam are SC.... it made me smile.Your friendly reminder that buying into SC is buying into a scam.
I watched a film the other night where one of the principal production companies involved was '42'.
I haven't checked yet, but it would be interesting to find out who's behind it.
It's a 2019 film and the production company was simply called '42'.Foundry 42? how old is that video? Foundry 42 was the UK office, it has not been called that for years, its all just Cloud Imperium Games now.
Don't forget that's also a Hitchhiker's reference....It's a 2019 film and the production company was simply called '42'.
Lol, you keep quoting me, but as far as I remember I have not partaken in this latest bout of "is it a game" discussion no?![]()

Given speculation is fun, it's worth noting that TheAgent chalked up another prediction hit recently, regarding Sandi starting a film production company...
Sandi's terrible trailer
His 'hello post' from the time happens to be one that mentions further funding etc. If his source was right on one thing, maybe they were right on others... ¯\(ツ)/¯
- Chris Roberts is now worth over 30m USD, excluding any shares or valuations of CIG
- this makes him the richest crowd funded CEO ever, and "the highest paid games CEO that hasn't released a product"
- Sandi Roberts has invested in or opened her own production studio (couldn't get a biz name so ???)
- it supposedly aims to "produce and distribute films in touch with modern events, including feminist, LGTBQ and gender issues"
- Erin Roberts now worth upwards of 10m USD
- massive payouts to Roberts family and top execs occurred simultaneously with "several large investments" in 2017, 2018 and June 2019
- Chris recently re-upped contract with close partners and family members (???)
- "abysmal" working conditions continue, but with no end in sight for the crunch
- "These are their lives. They are going to spend the majority of their twenties working 60 and 70 hour weeks, just so executives can hit their bonuses. I cannot be more disgusted with how our crunch is handled."
- turnover continues at a rapid pace: "We need developers ing like rabbits and producing happy, subservient baby developers to keep up with everyone getting the out."
- special parties, bonuses or vacations given to certain employees (no reasons given): "It has caused a huge rift; there is an enormous amounts of backstabbing and bus-throwing to get that prize."
- and well, this: "Shut the up, Jared. We are unprepared? We are unprofessional? How you've managed to hold on to your job has to be some sort of devil's bargain. The pained groans that come from realising we are scheduled to appear with you are matched only by torture and child birth. PLEASE get the out and find a job you can handle without trying to over everyone more competent than you."

42 is pretty much a sci-fi trope these days. (Hence CIG using it)
Thought this was interesting recently though:
Unfortunately that is what it takes to get peope to concede basic points like "Is V wrong when saying SC isnt a game?". V was wrong, obviously so, but it takes a bunch of people to explain it over and over before people here concede that 'one of us' is wrong. And then it is still immediately switched to "yeah but your tone...". and "Ant is still also wrong...".
Maybe try to be as critical of all posts rather than "the opposition" and you'll find discussion goes much smoother. That is, if discussion about a game is what people want, rather than the tribalistic mud slinging that seems to be the default.
Happy Easter!
Except for the brief moment where they removed the "Games" from CIG, which led to lots of hilarity around here.
There, that's the core issue. There's a gray area indeed where you have various tech demos, barebones/unfinished projects, and even very complete projects that straddle the frontier between pure narration art pieces and games (thinking of some "walking simulators" for example (*)). Remember "interactive movies" from the 90's ? These were also pushing the definition of what was considered a "video game" as what little interaction you had was only to watch further parts of the movie. There's also a more academic approach to this, with challenge/reward cycles and the theory behind games, and one could argue that trying to fit a vehicle inside another in SC is a challenge/reward cycle by itself given the broken physics and ships made of explodium (which was the argument made by LA here). Is Garry's Mod a game ?Except I don't think it's quite as clear cut as you make it sound. At what point does a game become a game rather than a tech demo? - I'm not going to pretend to definitively know the answer to that.
Everything about SC/SQ42 is a trope. Sandworms, names of planets/systems, alien races.
Which of course is why we joke CR must have just watched (insert film here) and ran into the office to tell everyone about the great idea he had.
Nope. The tribalism was, yet again, in your mind. And by assuming as a first principle that it is base tribalism underpinning an argument, you ironically introduce its worst facets into the debate.
Just as when you called people in the thread sad mediocre bungholes because you decided this perfectly reasonable post was equivalent to "attacking, mocking, insulting or ridiculing fellow gamers". Ironic.
Just as you did when you decided that people were saying 'SC fans are evil, stupid, insane', even though nobody was, and used that as grounds to compare the posters here to racists. Absurd, unwarranted, and needlessly offensive.
And these are far from the only examples of you doing this.
You are not the antidote to tribalism in this thread that you believe yourself to be. You are an agent of it. And demonstrably so.
Its like the meaning of game has become a cult and if you're deemed unworthy you're not allowed in, please stop.
It wasn't a brief moment, but a permanent changeExcept for the brief moment where they removed the "Games" from CIG, which led to lots of hilarity around here.
CIG UK has been CIGsince 2018 yeah. Still is.
Maybe the new Manchester office will be making movies after all?![]()
