Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It fundamentally changes how we record state in the Universe and delivers a level of persistence that you just don’t see in other games, whether they are MMOs or even single-player experiences.

Roberts' MMO is going to have better persistence than single-player games.

Ha ha ha! Salvage is NOT delayed folks! It will still be in 3.18!

Oh and 3.18 is very very delayed.

How many years have we been hearing about salvage coming soon now?

Wasn't it first meant to come in 2018 or something? I remember a video of a ship exploding and spewing cargo but the result was it brought the whole server to its knees.

Road to Server Meshing.

Full persistence and replication layer in 3.18, expected up to 3 months Evocati testing. expected live release late Q3

3.19 becomes 4.0 with full server meshing and Pyro late Q4 - Q1 2023

I'll give Chris credit for the Groundhog Day reference, even if he can't see the wood for the trees in terms of it's potential relevance to the project.

We are getting tons of new players, tons of more money, tons of new devs and tons of new space. Yey us! But even with all that amazing goodness please believe us when we say that we will be nevertheless delaying 3.18 until god knows when, server meshing won’t be at all in the radar at least until after that same god knows when, we won’t be able to deliver a physical citizencon, the virtual version will not even have a key note gameplay demo and we have absolutely nothing to say about SQ42. What is Theaters of War again? Please buy more Idris.

It's yet another astounding quote choice 😁

That means that you could drop a gun or a med pen in a forested area on Microtech and return several days later after logging out to find the gun or med pen still there

The same fricking 'full persistence' speech as 2018. (And like, all the times he said it was coming in 2020, and 2021 ;))

It's just staggering.

So far this is like beat for beat the October 2020 Chairman's letter, down to the 'three key technologies'. (Previously: iCache, Quantum, Server Meshing. Now: New iCache, Gen12, and Server Meshing...)

Un....be...lievable 😁

Citizencon was always a marketing event, as many here have rightfully been critical its a "This is how the game could be in the future" event.

If, IF things pan out as decried through the next 6 to 9 months we wont be needing that anymore, they have also said they don't want to pull people away from this push to do Citizencon, i agree with that, less talk, more do.

It's just staggering.

Staggering, you say....?

Why staggered development?
This positive change allows us to continue delivering quarterly patches, but at a higher level of quality with fewer bugs. This does however mean we'll need to re-shuffle our schedules initially to better match this new cadence, but the result should provide a much more satisfying gameplay experience.

It’s important to note that we are still in Alpha, so some bugs are of course expected. Still, we see bugs being reduced as staggered teams will have more time to develop/refine their features, tech, and content and put it through more thorough testing before it hits the live servers.

This change reduces the risk of delivering patches late (...) But as we ramp up and enter into a rhythm with Staggered Development, our goal is to have every patch as robust as previous patches prior to Staggered Development, but in a more polished and timely state.

Furthermore, we remain committed to delivering features that are exciting and add to the overall Star Citizen experience every quarter, taking the time to do them right, and communicating with you every step of the way. That's what this new initiative is truly about.

They've been ramping up all the way from 2019.
