Star Citizen Discussions v7

I think when you said "practice" you meant "practise" and really you meant "play"

This might be slightly wrong if you're american, but still - play!

Sweden so no, practice.

I probably spend less for practice shooting but add one competition and with ammunition, travel and entry fees it goes up.

Yeah. In US "practise" is spelled "practice". "Practise" even comes up with squiggly grammar error lines in spellcheck.

Sweden so no, practice.
Oh, you're a Swede!? Cool. I'm Swedish but moved to US 20 years ago. Still have my family there. Say hi to Sweden for me. :D

That was not the point, the point was that I backed a project years ago i wish to come true, and the Banu merchantman is something extra,
The same that I supported Frontier also that amount of money and even I have had very much play time I still find Frontier have also not delivered already wat they pitched to me

Its not extra though in reality. They are giving you something you could get anyway. Of course, the other alternative would be classic pay to win, so at least there is that.

Not sure if this is in the thread, but pretty impressive! I have an Aurora, so looking most fwd to the improved ship if/when 3.0 is released.

This article is what I would call a realistic review on Star Citizen. We could still nitpick over terms used but overall I d say a good piece tho I m sure the fans wont like it.

Ooooh, burn...

That hour of footage is incredible and falls in line with every other promise Roberts and his company Cloud Imperium Games have made over the past few years.

EDIT: oooh, no comments section. How will the faithful repute it?

That's the other-counter-also thing. The term “release” is one that CIG has to apply really carefully since, on the one hand, it would allow them to actually start counting down the days on people's refund windows and lock in all that cash, but on the other hand, trying to release some random junk would allow various nasty legal complaints to be levelled against them, potentially costing them even more than those refunds… and they'd probably also be liable to try to repay a bunch of stuff on top of that, if such a thing were to happen.

So I think the waffling about release-but-not-full-release-but-released-enough is a very deliberate attempt to thread that particular needle. They must be able to say it's released enough to free them of some of the liabilities, but not released enough that they suddenly have to deliver a whole bunch of undeliverables.

Indeed. So just to sum up. Very specific list of items that apply to a software "release" (i.e. not just a label):

- Subjected to formal reviews and critics
- Significantly reduced or eliminated exposure to refunds due to product non delivered
- Increased liability exposure due to gaps between delivered product features vs advertised/promised features (i.e. Kickstarter, stretchgoals etc).

As we can see not just a label, at all.

Now, personally I dont think CIG will use the term "first release" anywhere when they actually release something. Three main scenarios:

1) Actual "release" of a certain SC game, and becoming exposed to the above 3 main points.
2) Formal declaration of Early Access of some kind, whereby CIG gets partially exposed to reviews but can claim a delivered product, reduced exposure to no delivery refunds and no exposure to product description gaps liability.
3) Continue as they do today, i.e. in the never ending alpha, beta etc and continue to be subject to no delivery refunds and potential regulatory agency interventions due to sine die ever expanding schedule, but no liability on product gaps.

My pick if I was CIG? Number 2. Followed by numer 3 and 1. In that order.

So is there any of that in the current 3.0? How can they run a demo on that yet have such an (apparently) rubbish 3.0? Is the video like an in game on rails cut scene?

No, specifically created convention video, probably on rails and pre-rendered/recorded, my guess is that gameplay-like elements were deliberately integrated to create the illusion of gameplay but none of it was actually life or existing

you could have done that with $30

I could cut my steak in the kitchen with a $30 knife... But instead I bought some Kuro Hana kitchen knives from Edge of Belgravia for $300. Damascus steel FTW...
More relevant, I've just spent what some would call a stupid amount on a pair of Virpil joysticks that I've never even seen IRL but would probably be 90% satisfied with a pair of T160000Ms.
I've always found that leaving people to spend their own money how they want leads to a life less troubled with a misplaced concern for others' "wellbeing."

I'd be disappointed if CIG collapsed before the game came out, but not devastated even though I've spent more on SC than I have even on ED, which about $500 total from the alpha to engine smoke colours and the recent gorgeous Predator paint jobs...
I have been enjoying watching the development of SC over the years and have had more enjoyment from that game just by chatting and theorycrafting than I have so far than several other games I've actually bought and played.

ADHD 向け TL;DR: Money spent? Whatever.

I'm liking the idea of the colony builder ship, even though I have no desire to do such a thing. Finding your own world and setting up a colony on it does have its appeal. Looks like a lot of people think so and are willing to drop 850 bucks into one of those ships.

Even though someone is calling the Pioneer sale "bad", it still raised approximately 2.8 million US$ in about 48 hours...

And that's for a very specific ship with no combat, no exploration and no real cargo abilities...

The more various options given for people to do what they will in game, the better.

Overall I thought CitCon this year was very well done.

The only thing pre-recorded was showing off the tools, which were pre-recorded videos and clearly stated as such.

From the Smart forum, good visual timeline recap:

You should take up smoking - it's good for your health!

Or we can care about each other because we're humans.

It sounds nice, until you think, ok, what now? I've got a base and.....? Not saying they can't add stuff to do. And sometimes having a place to call home is nice. I've got a home in ED, and with Squadrons we will be able to get a mobile home as well. But CIG not only still have to develop the whole base building/colony functionalty (which i can't imagine coming before... well, the rest of the game), but also then what to do once you have that base. Why should people pay your colony a visit? Are you farming and can sell stuff? Are you going to do the farming? Or are your peons, erm, i mean org members going to do the farming and chopping wood etc while you sit in your pioneer overseeing their efforts. Will you be a good master and reward your peons... erm, org memebers for growing large quantities of space potatoes?

All serious questions that need answering!

And then, if the info about 3.0 is right, persistence is coming soon. So, people will start earning credits. By the time the Pioneer is in game, i can imagine a vast majority of players will have the funds needed to buy one. Is every Tom, Richard, and Harry going to be setting up their own colonies? Who will farm the space potatoes then? Surely not the owners of these fine ships?!
