Star Citizen Discussions v7

You should root through the actual Gamescom footage - one of the SC backers asks him if that presentation is 3.0 and he says no, and that much of it isn't even 3.1. It was just a faked reel showing what they hope they can make the game like it in the future - this is established fact.

The only bit of 3.0 seen was the streamed stuff before with a few commandos on the moon where they had to reboot everything after 15 minutes to keep it working, where there was only that one moon and you couldn't get into space or to a station or anything because none of it worked.

The following week the ATV showed Erin Roberts instructing the devs that they had to work on getting even Quantum Travel working in actual 3.0 so they could get the testers on it - clearly the demo you're talking about was not 3.0. It's now months later and all the leaks from the testers say it's still in a shockingly bad state with nothing working. There is no way those demos were real full builds. These are simply facts - it's best to take them on board and then look at what is being sold and decide for yourself if they're being honest.

BTW more generally - isn't the "game changer" utterly obvious now they're talking about the important of "privatised colonisation" and selling a new ship that can set up a base?

ps. why is my quote not working?!?

Do you have a link or time stamp for the part you mention at the beginning of your post?

Hmm. That's too bad! The 2017 live showing seemed live to me when they did it. They had a team of people actively playing the "game" in a live play fashion. Not just a couple people, but about 15 or so toward the end in the capital ship / carrier fight scenes. I know the scope of the game is maddeningly huge and there are a lot of bugs they were mostly avoiding, but it still looks like a fair amount of content to me. I still have some hope.

To what others who were pointing out that all of what they showed was not in the next 3.0 alpha. I did realize that. That wasn't bothering to me. I just hope that what they do release for 3.0 is substantial enough and playable enough.

Did you saw the live presentation or a video where they cut atleast 5-10 minutes of repeated "demoing" because one of the players had a crash and couldnt join back in into the persistence universe of 3.0 that CR boldy stated it would be?
How CR tell people to "not show the loading screen" when they had to restart the whole thing again. Having to go through the same sequences of action, rushing through towards the miller questgiver seeing the abrupt scripted camera changes to show facial and other stuff, the awesome AI and taking the same routes as before just like on a path nothing lifelike or "subsumption" as again boldy stated by CR. It was a desaster...and the worst it didnt show ANYTHING about 3.0 it was its own contained story, we didnt even finished the mission, they supposely were trying to finish. Even a stage demo isnt able to show resemblance of a gameplayloop how can anybody have any hope 3.0 be something awesome?

It was literally watching a magician screwing up and revealing all his "magic" to be nothing more then smoke, mirrors and tricks.

That wasn't content from the new version, just as the sandworm isn't either - it's just fabricated demo scenes to show what they're hoping to be able to do. It's not a live version it's little subsections and maps and single-path stuff hence the need to replay things accurately when they restarted, and the resetting to the start of the battle

The scope is currently tiny - it's three moons around one planet.

This is a good measure. When 3.0 hits public, find me a video of some random tackling the sandworm.
So far, I have zero evidence that the stuff they 'demo' actually exists.

Its the same sort of stuff they show gaming magazines as well. Remember how pre gamescon one or two mags talked about seeing a really nice 3.0 that was going to be released soon(tm). Yeah, where is that demo they saw? Certainly not what is avaiable or will be avialable to players.

Yeah thats even more hillarious, how the magazins are gushing about how awesome SC is how they played a version of 3.0 how amazing it ect. Just for the people to find out they are even more guiliable then the rest of us just to get the exclusive delusion for themself.

I seem to recall there were "journalists" claiming to to have played a working, hands-on demo of 3.0 in closed RSI PR sessions prior to the GC 2016 show, too.

There are (or were) a never-ending stream of minor blogs and Eurogamer posts about the Next Coming Thing and and how it great it looked. Makes you wonder where that dev funding went.

I think you might be right...

Its not gullible. They make money on the story, true or false.

Ok, just discovered why you shouldn't take such things at face value.

He was talking about other games where you get to see them when they are almost finished.

Since we are being skeptical about production of SC, its worth remembering to be skeptical about all sources of information. ;)

Espescially when its so heavily edited that all context is removed.

Thanks Agony_Aunt, I suspected this a bit but it's Mondays morning here and I am still without coffee.

Indeed, i should have had more coffee before posting about it.

The reddit sub went to town on me for posting it there. Fair enough, although only one or two politely corrected me. Most simply started with the name calling. A shame, there are some good people on that sub, but some very nasty hateful people as well. But meh, same on any forum.

However, my reddit block list has grown significantly from that thread :D

Probably the latter, they have to pad the time somehow...

Edit: Actually, I just checked IMDB: Her character didn't even qualify for a name - just "Vic's Mom" - so maybe you can fit it into <1 minute. :D

What's really cringeworthy is that that crap has to be brought up in the middle of something totally unrelated. Who cares about that ... that... thing when their real product's delay is literally aggravating virtually everyone?!.

Isn't Star Citizen supposed to not do the fishy marketing like the other companies in the gaming biz? Like not paying for marketing and ads to mislead people through vaporware?

Oh, and I think stalking sandi gardiner online and exposing her acting activities to make fun out of her is creepy and wrong. Please stay on topic.

Sadly Star Citizen seems to operate with the 'If we say it enough then it'll be true' mantra.

They have always been mixed on this. I personally don't mind PR and marketing as long as you can add two plus two and figure out stuff behind spins presented by company. However CIG has been in full deception mode for last three years, which is even worse than WB not telling about loot boxes till 1 month till release of the game in my opinion.

Stalking is totally, utterly wrong. Threatening, even joking about threats are wrong, full stop. Both these things need to be cleansed from Internet. In most heavy cases criminal cases should follow.

Making fun of her activities however is fine as long as it is harmless fun. Sex jokes, etc. heavy stuff is not harmless fun in my book. But it is also offtopic on this thread and whole SC discussion. So I will leave it to that.

Can you forgive me if I CBA to watch it all gain? It was after the second run though I think, Chris just wandering the stage and someone shouts out from the audience asking if this stuff is from 3.0
