Star Citizen Discussions v7

So;

Game is bugged beyond belief with no obvious fixes for networking - server meshing etc. etc.

The company looks like it now has to defend itself against some heavy duty legal stuff.

Backers are presumably weighing up whether they want to carry on fund the legal bills (though at least one redditor is convinced that because they have their own in house lawyer sorting this out will simply be a matter of filing costs.... :D)

Refund requests might get delayed slightly..

And all this is good for SC because???

Crytek should start its own crowdfunding campaign to get more resources to dismantle CIG effictively. They could fish the embittered ex-SC-whales and promise to finish the game when they got their property back.

LOL. That's just evil. [haha]

According to Saint Google, Skadden partner level lawyers bill around 1000-1200 USD / hour. Associates, leg work grunts, around 300-500 USD / hour.

This, too, should give a good indication of what Crytek expects to get out of the deal. A couple of hundred man-hours… well… lawyer-hours will undoubtedly be sunk into this project before it even gets near a court room.

So for those who's just joining us, Crytek filed suit against CIG yesterday. If you'd like a copy of the complaint, I've pulled it from Lexis and posted it
01-complaint.pdf
here.

I also think the $75k is more of "big boys court" limit than an actual value

Nailed it. It's one of the requirements for filing or moving a case into Federal Court in the US, known as diversity. This is going to be a substantially lucrative case. If they survive summary judgment, this will be settled. Something tells me CIG would hate for Plaintiffs to pierce their corporate veil.

Worst case scenario...they lose the engine.

"Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control we have been forced to cancel work on StarEngine. The good news is that, with our unprecedented scope and fidelity, we had rapidly outgrown that outdated technology, and so now we are free to begin working on a new engine which will properly support all of the amazing features we are planning. With your support, StarEngine 2.0 will eclipse all of the existing commercial engines. To celebrate this exciting new direction, we are proud to present an all-new concept sale etc etc"

It is highly possible they want to get project from Chris to salvage and run it by themselves. CryTek have quite a list of projects in their resumes.

I'm with sleutelbos. Think about it, would you rather have (a) responsibility for a horrifically broken, 90% unfinished game, or (b) a really, really fat wad of cash?

If this isn't the ELE then there will be no ELE and the project is bombproof...

(how can it not be the ELE - seriously?)

We've underestimated the whales' pockets before. I'm going grab popcorn and lulzbuckets and just watch for now.

Epic Conspiracy time: this is actually totally planned by CIG who promised to split some of that sweet sweet crowdfunded cash as settlement money to Crytek if they sued publicly and at high expense, with emphasis on the S42 engine injunction. In return, CIG can use the injunction to explain why S42 can't be shown just yet and will be delayed further if releasable at all, and why it's totally not their fault.

Come on, who can do better? [noob]
