omg, after watching the stream for 15 minutes I am about to book a flight to cologne to a) 'play' the 15 minutes demo myself and b) chat to Star Citizens in the real world and c) witness derek smart chilling at the star citizen boot

What I really do like is how planet surface/lighting looks, I cant tell if this is really entire moon with this lvl of details and terrain variety but if so, our beige balls looks quite bad now. Also I haven't notice any jarring pop-ing and terrain loading for the most time too. And yes transition is seamless.
Semi clickable cockpits are a great addition too, looks wonky atm but idea is very welcome. I like their SRV, and it looks like it follows the terrain and not sliding.
EVA, Space Legs, moving from ship to SRV, to another ship - thats is cool. I want that I Elite badly now, I can wait for gameplay, just let me walk FD!
But the flight model that is almost the same for hover bike and giant ship - they seriously need to work on that, it looks terrible. And also lets be honest - game play wise it was bunch of guys messing around in fantastic looking Gmod map :D

Note that everyone runs EVERYWHERE.

If it was really that cool would they be doing that, or is that letting you clearly see they're already kinda bored with it?

We are watching live from gamescom, hard to link direct part atm.

Ok, so we have to wait for the full clip to be available for later view I presume. Although I would imagine something as serious as a delay to December would have already been commented on Spectrum or Reddit and I cant see it.

It's already delayed indefinitely till they fix the bugs so December will not surprise anyone.

Planet tech is something they have nailed pretty well tbh, they have done a lot of work making sure things look in place too rather than just objects badly placed on the landscape, I still come accross proc structures in Ed where one or two corners of building don't even make contact with the ground :(

Would not be boring for me, I play lots of games that makes you run from "storage to your vehicle" - this is immersive for me. Different things for different ppl, I dont feel it as a chore.

I've been watching it for a while - it looks good visually, but beyond that, pretty terrible.

Pilot model stuck in a "running" animation while falling towards the surface

Several instances of pilots getting popped out of ship for no reason

The Nox "bike" falls over quite a bit (although that might be due to them not turning it on before using it?)

Swapping from 1st/3rd person view in cockpit - the pilot model is drawn before the helmet about 0.5s later

Flight model is awful - no inertia of any kind by the look of it. The standard excuse of "low gravity moon" doesn't work with ships stopping dead on a dime and just hanging in a location

Landing doesn't quite work - ship hovers above the ground

Several of the doors on the ships (noticeably the back door on one of them) don't work, or work only intermittently - the staff on the stream don't seem to have realised that as they try and use them repeatedly

Nothing to do except fly/drive around and shoot at other players - gets old pretty quick

The 15 minute server reset "saved" their stream on several occasions while I was watching it - it was cringeworthy in places.

The commentary is at best purile, but they're likely just trying to hide the fact that there's nothing to do.

Surface/Space transition appears seamless, but I didn't see a single instance of them getting into actual space - I doubt it's possible in this "demo" - they always ejected (or possibly were ejected) before Orbit and started falling. They did this several times over the course of each server reset - it's almost like they were just doing the same stuff over and over in the same order. Didn't see any ships actually in "space".

Meh.

To be fair, each and every structure is hand placed in Star Citizen and because there are so few of them they can spend the time ensuriing they are correct from every angle.

Can someone please explain the trading card thing in detail? I can't watch anything till I get home - but that particular gem made me splutter coffee all over my surface pro :D I predicted such nonsense years ago :D

That is how space works when you aren't in orbit.

So they're not going into space they're just flying up really high.

Unless they demonstrate flying from the surface to one of their stations it's safe to assume they can't do it and all this is just a big map unconnected to the rest of the game.

They are at this point in time. but the end result is that they are building on the tech manually now to proc seed them down the line.

So they put in the effort now to curate them manually, make sure they don't look daft and badly placed so that they know they look legit so that they can be sure they will work to proc gen in the larger 'verse or whatever its called. With their tech as I understand it they are putting in the attentive work now so that down the line it's easy to seed spawn these locations with the same kind of quality rather than having slapdash looking things just dropped onto the landscape.

Saying that the quality of the US in ED is much higher than previous structures.

You know you can be in space but not in orbit? If you flew half way to the moon but were not in orbit and got out you would fall down to earth.

Also what you are saying is pretty much how ED works. You can't de-orbit from a station and drop down to the local planet because the maps are disconnected.

The cards give you access to ship sales that may or may not be listed or available normally on the site.
