Star Citizen Thread v6

The physics and collision detection are absolutely abysmal.

They'd have been better off just sticking to promo videos and forgetting about gamescon this year.

According to David Swofford this "blows NMS planetary landings out of the water".

Ben does anyone in UK even know if this is genuinely 3.0 with "stuff disabled", there has been a serious amount of money raised and nobody seems to know what's being shown for it after 6 years.

Blink twice for "nobody seems to know"

Uh... with the recent update to NMS I'm going to say that's a resounding no. ...and I'm someone who hated NMS at launch.

Looks like they've mapped one planet with a heightmap, added rudimentary shooting, and made ships.gravity="no".

Pretty much. It's a struggle to watch those guys messing about with it with Jared throwing in the usual caveats of "early build" and "that shouldn't have happened"

NMS took a huge jump forward there, I was bored with it after 2 days when it launched and I'm really enjoying it now, it's a really addictive and immersive game. Swofford said that a couple of days before NMS dropped 1.3 and well, that's him blown out of the water now.

It's basically THE perfect demonstration of what Cry does really well and what it does really badly.

Cinematics, graphics, lighting looks great - it can't move any of it around or let you physics a big ship and all the native clipping issues are still there.

I think it must have taken them a year to make a big spherical map. I cannot imagine anyone making a game out of this.

How can they show THAT and in good conscience ask for more money to make it into a game?

If that's "a portion of 3.0 that's stable" according to German Bee-Gee then jesus christ you've no chance mate

It's just a spot in the PU with some spawn points, I think.
Shame there's no free fly, I'd love to test by myself how much of this demo is smoke and mirrors.
Smoke has been moved onto the 3.0 schedule, mirrors are still a performance concern.

Now watching a chase sequence. The flight model appears to be very mouse friendly. Next to no apparent inertia, you point in a direction and the ship goes there, like they have no mass.

That's because they've managed to make absolutely no improvements to the flight model since 20th December 2014 when Arena Commander 1.0 was released. In almost 3 years they still haven't managed to create a decent flight model, despite the fact Arena Commander was meant to be the test bed for just such improvements.

hmm, doesn't look like there is all that much to do. Get the feeling that if 3.0 does get released (it's become as elusive as the game itself now) it'll represent most available Star Citizen gameplay for another two years or more.

LOL, this must be the lamest and weirdest birthday celebration I've ever seen...
Like for real, what's this guy's problem? He didn't even say a word or smiled, could at least say "thanks" or something...
He just shoved his head into the cake and ruined it for everybody else.

Any footage of the ship or bike crashing into the planet yet?

It plummeted from space and magically stopped and floated above the ground.

If this is the state of physics and collisions in year 6, with the engineers who built the engine in house since year 4, you've no chance.

Still nothing for players to do after they funded it for this length of time.

That helmet visor surround that's visible from some players' pov (but not others) makes it feel like they're in a VR headset. And that horrendous compound head-bob they apply to it can die in a fire, too.

So we can put an end to this being an "example of what the game is intended to be", or a "presentation of the vision", because this actually is a 3.0 build isolated to a single location with a spherical Cry map inside a cube boundary.

So let that sink in.
