So if the announcement that they're dropping 90-95% of the games content has been received as no content dropped it'll just be a denser game than it already is. Why bother to reduce the size, isn't it just as much work to cram 100 systems full of stuff into the 3 moons that will be in the MVP, as it would be making 100 systems ?.

If I remember right, those 100 systems were all crucial to the deeply thought-out and satisfyingly complex intricacy of the lore behind Star Citizen.

They are all required to keep the player engaged in a believable, living, breathing universe at the utmost levels of fidelity possible.

Having only five systems (if we are lucky) would mean that the lore is either 95% superfluous, or that 5% of fidelity is sufficient.

I'm not sure which is worse :D

Is the MMO part of the game, excluding SQ42, supposed to be a open world sandbox, make your own story type of affair? If so there likely won't be a problem from a story point of view. I sincerely doubt they had plans for some huge story that would encompass 100 systems.

As for SQ42, what possible knock on effects will there be for having such a small universe? To be frank, I don't really know how much these types of changes are likely to affect the single player part of the game, if at all.

There's a tagline for this: Whoever wins...we lose. (Best thing about that film).

so you think that exploration and trade, a huge part of the sandbox MMO, will be possible with 5 systems.
Look, I have found a planet never explored before!
oh, wait, it says it has peen discovered by 23500 players before me. what a mess!

Noone knows anything whatsoever about Sq42, so noone knows how this will effect it.

1.5 million people blobbing around the one mission giver :D

Oh hang on, there's another one isn't there? It's a good thing that CIG have a resilient and reliable NetCode(tm) solution that will make this totally seamless for all those instances of hundreds of Commando's ;)

So he says on the 23rd October 2012 that he has already spent a year doing the research and prototyping. That's 3 months short of 6 years then.

The PvP slider is not a thing now.

If you want to avoid PvP, now you just have to stick to safe systems on release.

5 systems on release? That's gonna be fun :D

5 systems and no PVP slider. Who needs it? Obviously 2 systems will be ultra safe with 250,000 players all respecting each other, and the other 750,000 players (using the touted more then 1,000,000 accounts), being into PVP and never will the 2 groups meet. Never ever....
.
Nope never.
