Thanks for bringing the thread back on track... dunno what all that business about appliances was about

How can they have a cast for a non-existent game? Sounds really... really weird. How many movies come out that have a cast-list for something that doesn't exist yet (... allegedly)?

And another thing... if it doesn't ever come out.. I wonder how many of those A or B class actors will ever want to mention that they worked on this game in the future...

It's not really THEIR cast since IMDB also list what each actor has been worked on regardless of release state.
I mean, should we say an actor has been unemployed after working a year on a movie and it later got cancelled? They still acted in it.
So all the recorded acting is movie material they have acted in.

Find me an actor that NEVER acted in something that SEEMED good on set but became bad when it was released...

With Fideliteh 1.0 Sweat beads no doubt?

Physics based sweating no less.

With local sweat bead physics grids? xD

That would be more of an issue of not having the right tools.

And while people might have issues in regards to CE3/Starengine and networking that should hardly impact the people working on SQ42 graphical assets and 3D assets unless they are only given MS paint to do the job in.

The question is, why have they refrained from showing us their progress? 3.0 delayed again, with features cut, no word of SQ42... that doesn't sound like progress to me. Quite the opposite, matter of fact. I am afraid that CR's tendency to want to include anything and everything he has ever seen shoots the project in the foot -- with a 8.8cm from WWII. (I remind you of the hilarious proposals regarding the mixing of drinks on passenger spacecraft, choosing between different uniforms for flight attendants . . . all that is FLUFF. It's stuff you can add ONCE THE GAME IS DONE. It's like putting your shoes on before getting in your trousers.)

Mind you, I'd love to see both SC and SQ42 finished and released (first off, because I really enjoy space games, and secondly, I feel for the backers), but at that pace . . . I mean, they have wages to pay, at the very least (electricity, possibly rent... it all adds up).

Saw the PM. Im surprised they do not include cancelled movies considering the time it can take and while you get paid there will be no result of all your work if the movie is never released.

I agree.

I mean, sure, they might have mechanics they need for it to work PROPERLY and to get to a release state but so far they have show VERY little actual SQ42 footage, pictures, greybox or even whitebox.
Not even some example mission planning. The ONLY thing we have really seen are test modules and things directly related to ship assets or performance capture data.

Heck, even STILLS with the TEXT of "mission planning screen" or "pilot rec room and pilot roster on REDACTED ship" would give SOMETHING.

By entering it into the database. Most movies go through that phase, but they keep it hidden on IMDBpro until it's ready for public consumption. Of course, if you're more into stat padding than keeping the behind-the-scenes mess… well… behind the scenes, where only those in the industry can see it, then obviously that logic no longer applies.

Fans already started touting Star Gym after today atv

:D

Star Gym 1.0 coming soon after citizencon presentation.

Theorycrafting at its finest!
Maybe somebody want to go on that thread and suggest adding (in a serious theorycrafting tone of course):

-- If you are over fifty, bending down and even getting out of the w-pod will make your character groan loudly
-- Rheumatoid arthritis could be included so that running becomes painful.
-- Old war injuries are remembered and you get out of breath quickly because the side of your skull was blown off, two spawns ago.
-- While in the gym, you get more stamina if pretty girls walk past, but it suddenly dies away when they don't notice you
-- Your stamina gets severely reduced if you have been packing in some Big Benny's noodles

A chance for CIG to break new ground at last with smell-o-vision! Wrinkle your nose as genuine smells are created by the whiff-box.

Be quiet and take my currency.

There are limits to my immersive needs.

"Ok, we have a complete rupture of this ships hydrophonics and waste system so get in there and repair it"...

* Player performs "gag" and "throw up" - It's super effective *

-- Your "fast" boarding and escaping of a ship cockpit/seat is always performed at the same speed as slow - except there are more pops and groans from your joints.
-- Being knocked down takes twice as long to get up from and you will curse like a sailor every time
-- Whenever you get a new ship, module or weapon your character will grumble about "the old days" and how "these newfangled toys are crap compared to your old trusty model XYZ".
-- Every two re-spawns you will need to get a new spacesuit due to the larger gut you have been developing.
-- you run 1% slower for every respawn up to a maximum of -50% until you visit a doctor for a checkup where the drawback is removed as they tell you that you are getting old
-- There is a 0.1% delay to every interaction for each respawn until you visit a doctor for a checkup where the drawback is removed as they tell you that you are getting old
-- Flashbangs are less annoying for every respawn until you visit a doctor and get a hearing aid and they give you medication for your cataract.
-- Every respawn reduce your accuracy until you visit a doctor for a eyesight examination

All the money they have raised is debt. They promised games and ships to fly in those games for the money that was given. Until that is delivered then it is a liability (debt). My point was that even should someone take them over and get the game out the door, who would they sell that game too? They have to give it away to the backers.
Is that how crowd funding works? It's a loan? I'm not sure about that. I suspect crowd funding is risk capital. It's investing money. Investing is not something you can demand to get back if it fails. Sometimes you can if it's taken to court and proved to be fraudulent, but normally, I don't think it can be considered a debt.

This is from Kickstarter's website:
Creators are responsible for their projects. When you back a project, you're trusting the creator to do a good job, so if you don't know them personally or by reputation, do a little research first. Kickstarter doesn't evaluate a project's claims, resolve disputes, or offer refunds — backers decide what's worth funding and what's not.

Looking into it further, Kickstarter isn't like Lending club. Debt-based kickstarters would be stuck legally with a debt, but Kickstarter is a reward based, and is not legally bound to pay back the money, as far as I know, but I could be wrong. Is there any example of it happening or court case where this has been done?

This sounds about right. They can release rubbish and you're not entitled to get your money back as far as I know.

This is from Kickstarter's website:

It is donation. Developer depending on legal status might see it as deterred income - as did FD for example till release of ED 1.0 - or just see it as donation without any consequences.

It is neither form of investment, preorder, nor VC. It is completely depending on goodwill of all sides involved.
