Star Citizens forum praise ED video

Yeah, I've been reading the Elite threads on the Star Citizen forums. It's nice when fans are positive about each other's games.

Some people on the RSI forums have got the impression that the Frontier forums aren't very positive about SC in return, so in the spirit of mutual backslapping... Star Citizen looks awesome too! And I'm looking forward to seeing what the latest patch to the hangar module brings, which (I believe) is coming later this week.

I've been doing my bit on there in the chat room and the forums. Got a few new people for ED :)

Lots of people are evangelising both projects which is a good thing. :)

oh wow some good publicity that is.
and all for free:p
I might buy S.C. as well maybe a year later.
first go for total immersion with F.D.

SC is where I would go if ED didn't work out.

I would back both, but I don't think I will have enough time to do ED justice let alone an additional game.

Either way I wish Chris and the SC team and community well.

I'm a strong critic of SC indeed but I always make it clear that it is because of my personal preferences and tastes.

I simply never enjoyed Wing Commander series, much to my dismay because I really wanted to like such a generally liked franchise. I found them uninspiring because of the lack of "feeling" of actually being in a spaceship (hence my strong opinions about Elite Dangerous needing at least some realistic features that give that feeling and immersion).

But they were one of that franchises I recognized it was very good, just me not being able to enjoy it to the full. And I think the same about Star Citizen. Looks fantastic, the concept is great, the ideas behind it too, but in the end I'm sure the unrealistic controls will mean I won't be able to enjoy it as many others will.

But that doesn't mean the game is bad. Means I have my own tastes :).

The thing is that dunno exactly why everyone expects competing or similar themed titles to have communities that hate each other. As a YT producer who puts up a lot of War Thunder content (War Thunder is a F2P aircraft game with a pretty strong realism component built into it) I see everyone is expecting me to hate on World of Warplanes (WoWP is another F2P aircraft game, in beta, that has absolutely no realism whatsoever and is just an aerial-based arcade game with no further pretensions.). And I don't get why should I. I for sure won't ever enjoy WoWP while I love War Thunder to bits - but that doesn't mean that WoWP has to be a bad title. It can be an incredible game, it's just aimed at a public with different tastes and expectations than mines.

I'm reconforted and happy to see the SC community has such a positive view of Elite Dangerous, and that the opposite is also the case. Nonsensical hating wars for such unreasonable reasons are pointless imo.

Yeah I don't like hating wars. Like that whole Babylon 5 vs Deep Space 9 thing was silly back in the day. When Babylon 5 was obviously superior.

I'm not backing SC, my funds all went to ED projects. But I'll probably buy the game when it comes out. But it won't have the personal touches like stuff from Allen's book or the Gibson La Lisa Station that's out there. Which is part of the reason this whole ride has been so wonderful, being able to contribute in some way and having nods to the fanbase like that.

I never played the wing commander series, there was just something about it that never appealed to me. That said, I think that Star Citizen looks great; I'm very interested in the "fly by wire" control system they're using and am looking forward to see how that works in practice.

what's this camp thinking, have games become soccer teams nowadays?

Backed SC and ED, pre-ordered X Rebirth, so what?
Do I get a tolerance and diversity awareness medal for equal treatment of upcoming space sim?

I split my funds between both games. I love Wing Commander and Elite when they came out long time ago. I hope I get the same feel when Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen comes out.

Great to have you on board and thank you for backing. Both are extremely worthy projects and will be fantastic to play.

We are very lucky to have such quality amongst us.

Thank you for the kind words re the videos. All of us were blown away by it....I LOVED the frost/ice on the cockpit! Awesome !

I'm a big time Star Citizen backer who has now backed Elite. I'll admit the catalyst was the recent video. Might be scripted but it was fantastic.

Same here. Was on the SC forums, clicked the link out of interest, saw video, claimed alpha access. Just like that. I have high hopes for E:D, even when I read about it so long back (when the kick starter was still around). I was kind of on the fence, but it looks like the game's ended up with some real promise.

If that cinematic was the look and feel they want to go for, we got a pretty epic game on the horizon.

Same here. Wing Commander had a devote following but I could never get into it. SC on the other hand looks like digital art - the hangar module has sold me on it due to the attention to detail they've put in and the interactiveness of you and your ship they've given us. Obviously I hope it has a lot of depth to it beyond visuals. I haven't pledged to SC but its one I'll definitely try if the game specs don't demand a super computer to play it!

I've never been one to get all up in Arms about things... (other than emacs and vi)

I have to admit that in Retro Lave we did all dis on WC1... but that's mainly because of the way its sprite graphics didn't scale well and the AI on the enemy's was too predictable... WC1 did however do a great job of making us feel like we 'lived' the game and we're all looking forward to re-visiting that universe in an upcoming show...

I've always seen the Wing Commander universe as living a story, where as the Elite Universe to me is 'You are a Commander in space.... GO' But here's the funny thing... they're different games, they will appeal to different people for different reasons...

Personally I've backed Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen and Kinetic Void... they are all free form(ish) space sims... but they are also all different. I've also got the older X3 games and Evochron Mercenary. I like space games but I don't have to marry one and be exclusive. Heck I also happen to play other games too of different genres... And I head some people like Animal Crossing...

I've backed both games, but I admit to preferring Elite - mostly because it was the definitive (only) space game around when I was in my early teens when I had the most time to play.

I look forward to playing both when they come out. :)

Addendum: I certainly played Wing Commander as well when I was a teen (the first one, if I recall correctly), but I was not impressed by the flight physics that seemed to treat the ship as if it was a plane in an atmosphere (it seemed to have a tendency to return the heading to "horizon" or something - cannot recall exactly).
