Star Citizens forum praise ED video

Wow praise indeed from Michael there :)

I'm an SC backer and an Elite Dangerous backer, and I'm supporting both games. My time is gonna be split between these two and any other games that I currently play. I guess we will see when both of these come out which suck up more of my time :)

I've heard a few people say you'll be able to aggressively board other ships in SC - in true pirate fashion. So its not all about killing your opponent, but about taking over his/her ship and stealing it. Boarding parties sound fantastic, something I'd like to see ED implement one day. If its true this feature exists it shows just how deep and well thought out SC will be, as games of this genre in the past were pretty much limited to you needing to kill or disable your opponent to gain something in return. This mechanic will add a lot of strategy and fun to the game - taking it to the next level of realism.

I enjoyed Wing Commander 2 and Privateer 1. Wing Commander 3 and Privateer 2 were great for combat but the narrative cut scenes were a drag and immersion-breaking - I hummed through them to get back to the good stuff - the flying!

So I'm also interested in SC, but I think the cost might put me off long term.

LOL the narrative and cut scenes were the bits I enjoyed the most and I thought the missions were the drag LOL :)
Also with SC there is no ongoing cost. You get the game choose a ship, pay that and that is all. You don't need to buy anything else, you can earn it in game.

lol! How boring life would be if we were all the same :D

Ah if there's no ongoing cost that's a big plus. Thanks for the info.

Hehe. Star Citizen cost me $35 for public alpha access. Elite costs £200 for private alpha. Both games worry me slightly with the credits4cash thing though. I've been playing the Godus beta, and it's actually frustrating that when you come to a roadblock in your progression, you know that you could potentially pay your way out of it. It leaves the impression that the designers might be gaming the balance to try and extract cash from players. I'd dearly love to see alternative solutions found for all three games, though at this stage it seems unlikely.

In Elite all roadblocks are yours to fight with. Credits usually don't help that much (although they can make life easier sometimes).

I've backed both, I put more money in E: D because FE2 is the first space sim I've played. And I watched my brother playing Elite ... Elite series is really special to me :)
I also enjoy playing Wing commander serie and Privateer :)

Fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc. I really hope that's how it feels when you play the game. I can just imagine seeing a little 'Buy with real cash' icon next to that ship I can't afford. If they do include credits4cash, I hope that you can only do it on the website, and there's zero sign of it while you're playing the game.

Yep, that would be right way to do that.

Well space is a big place and the more great games out there that takes you out to the stars the better frankly ;)

Incidentaly, just noticed a mail in my dormant EVE account to say they are launching a single pilot game called EVE Valkyrie which looks awfully like Wing Commander to me. Following blog outlines how it will use the Occulus Rift too:

Personally I've turned my back on EVE for good but you can't deny that EVE does look good to the eye!

It's a OR demo which EVE developers did. It fledged out a full blown game. I saw it and frankly I didn't see what was fuzz about, but as they doing it mainly because of OR it should look fabulous with it.

SC looks very promising in many departments. Had it not been for Elite, I would have invested in SC. As it stands, I unfortunately don't have time for both .

loved the Hanger demo, nice feel getting in and out of the ship. one thing i found funny about the SC forum is if you check out the introduce yourself thread it would appear that almost all the americans avatars are pictures of them holding a gun, almost saying hey guys ive got a big gun" I am a Man"

im sure they have probably changed them since i was last on there.

but apart from that they are some nice guys over there.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

I'm an American and I spend a lot of time on the SC forums; I have to say I haven't noticed that. :) Maybe it just doesn't register to me, lol.

At any rate, my Avatar here is the same one I have on the SC boards and there's no gun. ;)

Of course there are some blockheads on the SC forums, but that's only noticeable because the user base over there is so much larger than here. I have noticed that the general maturity level on the Elite boards seems to be higher, though.

I do plan to play Star Citizen at some point but need to see how it fits into my ED time first!

It does look good though.

Yeah SC looks great. There's no denying that.

It seems that since the release of Frontier's capital ship battle video there's been a slight shift in opinions towards E: D from some SC fans, a favourable shift, which can only be a good thing. Not that I have anything against SC but I haven't been waiting for it to arrive for almost a decade and a half. :D

I've backed both, but I've spent a lot more money on ED, and I'm also likely to be playing ED a lot more.

Not due to the style; while CR doesn't usually go for realism (he is the guy that used WWII flight mechanics on space sims and halved all speeds when he made a fighter jet simulator), he puts gameplay first and foremost, and I'm perfectly fine with that. Not due to what I played as a child; while I liked Elite, my favorite game of all time is still Wing Commander Privateer.

Rather, my choice of ED over SC rests simply on PvP. SC won't allow me to completely avoid PvP while playing online; ED will, at the very least by creating a solo private group. Thus, my game of choice is ED, and I will play SC exclusively offline, where I won't be bothered by unwanted PvP.

For anyone that doesn't have the same issues as myself regarding PvP, SC is likely to be a really good game, both online and offline, though.
