My guess is rather SC atracks the younger space sim crowed knowing Freelancer.
Elite is very old IP unkown to several later generations latest gamer crowed.
Those who know Privateer might know. I didn't

SC crowed funding goes very well hit the goal with ease.

ED When all the fans had already pledge it stalled. It really did look bad. So I think some of the fans did a extra pledge. To reach the goal. Then came the Mac pledger.

So SC is just much more high profile as IP where the dev is related with are well known by current gamers.
Elite D is just like something very new.

Well said. The game is unique compared to other space sims, with it's own unique problems.

I'm off to explore our beautiful galaxy for the first time. I bet things can only improve while I am away.
