Most of planets are authored, most of PG systems are designed working together with *artist* to give space certain flavor. Unigue missions? Fetch #1023 as other MMOs? It has all been done, all seen. Those aren't unique, even MMO designers admit they are usually cut and paste and then tailored according to locality. FD does it combining artist input, handcrafted stuff with algorithms. Even Chris Roberts admitted that unless they can get it working in similar fashion, SC universe will feel small.

I don't know why we should look up to MMO designers in this instance, but if you insist, you can keep doing so. I've seen games with 100's of unique missions and storylines. And when considering these, I don't know why anyone should be asking advice from a MMO designer.

Please get to know how SC got their "investments in marketing". Guess what - it was "friends in right places", people so blinded by their childhood memories of Wing Commander they hyped CR as second coming of Jesus. Only few of them now speaks highly of CR, because of huge delays which are coming uncomfortably close to past experience with CR.

The second coming of Jesus sounds like a ED kickstarter campaign. Nothing new here.

On delays:

Approx release: March '14
Actual release: December '14.

A small delay.

Yes, FD has published those numbers, and they are in 20M pounds ball park, around 36M USD.

So, they've got the inflows. Lets see what they turn them into. Few hundred millions in returns you reckon?

So vision always win reality. So what? They can't be compared.

In case you haven't noticed, I agree that they shouldn't be directly compared. Even after SC releases.

I agree...

But I hope you're wrong - 'cos the epic poostorm will be EPIC!

That almost sounds like a reference to the Ocean/DID space game of that name from the early nineties on the Amiga, whaich like F29 before it, was seriously over-hyped.

cant even watch the SC twitch- says copyrighted music content have they gone and misused the space odyssey theme again?

edit- ok just the start the audio is cut off - jump to 1:34:00 for the demo audio is low/bad

I'm not giving CR any £$ until the game is out and this demo hasn't sold me on wanting it TBH

What do you expect if the FD was in Gamescom announcing a expansion and not even showed a in-game footage about something that will be released in less than 5 months.

On the contrary SC was showing gameplay content of the game that won't be released for the next n years. (Insert random number from 3-100 range)

I remember that!
Ocean was renowned for crappy games back in the day.

We should place bets. I say another 2 years myself. I also bet they are trying to scoop devs from Frontier ;)

Ocean was behind a fair bit of crap, but they arguably gave us the FPS genre with Operation Wolf.

Head Over Heels and Midnight Resistance were also so awesome I could play them forever. Rambo was pretty good as well. All games mentioned were played on the still superior "ZX Spectrum" platform that todays underpowered and soulless devices couldn't hope to compete with.

SC has...tons of very good looking non-gameplay and cutscene videos all around...

However, have so far delivered nothing. SC delivered stationary ships that you can buy for 3 or 4 times the price of Horizon, but you can only stare at them inside a hangar.

You'll need to get your "facts" straight here.

1. The SC Gamescom trailer was mostly in game video.
2. They are releasing the game using a modular approach and so far have released:
a. The Hangar module.
b. The Arena dog fighting module.
c. The racing module.
d. The intro/training module
e. Soon to be releasing the FPS module.

So while the game is still in development, they have actually released game play modules.

It's true that CIG have done an impressive job at their marketing campaign, hopefully they'll deliver on the final game as well.

FD have put out a great space sim, but are really not very good when it comes to their marketing campaign.

I think what the OP is trying to suggest is that it would help their cause to improve their marketing campaign which would, not only, keep the current community engaged but would also help to bring in new people (and new money) to the game.

I agree with this sentiment as it will help with the continued development of the game and that's always a good thing!

Star citizen has better marketing.

FD marketing on ED is odd and rather secretive and does not seem effective.

But at the end of the day it is the game that matters and it seems SC will not have seamless planetary landings where you can explore the whole planet and have a dog fight in a canyon and such where as ED is YES to all that :)

I had a ZX 81 with 64K expansion. I also had a 1040ST with GFA Basic. Learned to compile on that. Simpler times with simpler games.

Agreed 👍

and ill say it again. why bother releasing SC when they get hundreds of thousands a month for a game that isn't even a game. It will NEVER be released. Its a con job

Not trolling when I say I think you're 100% correct with this.

Its an ingenios money making device, nothing more.

Maybe reason there are more viewers is ther backers want to know what's happened to there money and where the game is :)

My guess is rather SC atracks the younger space sim crowed knowing Freelancer.
Elite is very old IP unkown to several later generations latest gamer crowed.
Those who know Privateer might know. I didn't

SC crowed funding goes very well hit the goal with ease.

ED When all the fans had already pledge it stalled. It really did look bad. So I think some of the fans did a extra pledge. To reach the goal. Then came the Mac pledger.

So SC is just much more high profile as IP where the dev is related with are well known by current gamers.
Elite D is just like something very new.
