Star One reached at last

A good place to embarrass Blake.

At 04:09 on 4th August 3302, CMDR Cral Travis of the Terran Federation became the first human being to ever reach the closest point in the Galaxy to the huge Andromeda Spiral, our nearest galactic neighbour apart from
satellites like the Magellanic Clouds.

BYAA THOI GC-D D12-0, known in some old Earth legends as Star One, the first and last star beyond which there are no other stars for over 2 million light years. It lies 41,753.2 light years from Sagittarius A*, as remote again from the Formidine Rift as that is from the Galactic Hub, and thus Travis may be the Commander who has existed further from galactic centre than any other human being.

Travis gazed into the void with his one good eye, and found it pleasing. No human being had ever set foot in the remote reaches of the Rim, here. He decided to survey the heck out of every part of every system on the way
home. Unless the Andromedans got in contact first.

(Accessible only by nearly thirty 100-light year jumps beyond the galaxy rim, this was the hardest thing I've ever done in a game. Log events and pics to follow. I took a short movie of my arrival in this most remote spot.)

That is amazing! Congrats Cmdr.

I think FD should create a Star One decal...

You did this in an AspX??! I am impressed!
She's named Felicity's Fancy, after Felicity Farseer who did all the work on it (level 5 FSD upgrade and a power plant output improvement). I do think she deserves a new paintjob for this achievement (my ship, not Felicity Farseer). Anyone got a suggestion?

Have some rep, just for being a Blakes 7 fan.
It's an easy job but someone has got to do it :) Thanks!

amazing. looking forward to your pics, route ... and return!
I've been bookmarking like crazy so I can keep the route. Will be back for more scans!

Watch out for the incoming invasion fleet.

And careful not to fall into any dangerous looking openings in bases there, Travis.

Good job Cmdr

couldn't resist to post this song :)

Love it! There's a couple of versions with Blakes 7 imagery:

I'll follow the album as you fill it. I just want to see...the void :) It just happens that every time I leave a bubble I move towards higher star density regions or nebulae, so I can't appreciate infinite darkness of the universe in all it's glory.
I have added a few more, including my one and only landing (with no shields installed, even the gentlest touchdown can result in hull damage). It was on the planet in the adjacent system, nearest to the Andromeda Spiral - the last planet in the galaxy that way out. Took photos in two directions. On one side, several warm suns. On the other, utter nothingness.

Its awaiting triateration, so once enough distances for it have been entered into the EDSM database it'll appear on the map.
I couldn't figure out how to input data, but the coordinates I have are -35,414 : -15 : 3,821 assuming I'm taking the correct corner of the grid squares by the digits. It's checkable on the Galaxy Map:

I don't know what impresses me more, reaching Star one, or somebody liked "Sand". That's almost as bad as "Headhunter"

Now if we could just find Vila-world, or is it Home-world?

I've checked new pics. Total blackness of intergalactic space is hauntingly beautiful, and scary :). Yet, this place seems so peaceful and disconnected from reality. Elite often makes me think about our real Galaxy. Makes me wonder how would the most distant solar system look in reality. Gives me chills :)

Point your long range scanners towards Andromeda. Just. In. Case.

Factoid - Terry Nation originally intended the invaders from Andromeda to be... Daleks, providing a cross-over between B7 and DW.

It would have been very cool to get that crossover. But the BBC overruled Nation, and that was just a shame.

I'd suggest the Christmas job, but, if you don't already have it, that is kinda out...

It is over. Despite still-unfixed wing-up bugs, unservicable microphone jacks, trigger-happy point defence, interdictions, interdictions resulting in “too fast for orbital flight” planet-plummets (and reboots from inside the planet), the sterling efforts of the two finest Commanders this side of Andromeda resulted in a successful climax to the Star One expedition.

Cmdr Cral Travis (i.e. me) and the “Felicity’s Fancy” were escorted to Kuhn and Long Sight Base by Cmdr Knott Shure (Andy Morgan) from 1500ly outside the Bubble and Cmdr KzFusion (Kasey Askew) in his heavily-armed vessel for the last interdiction-heavy run to safety.

Whilst the trio of ships positioned themselves for photos down on Khun, Elvira Martuuk’s defence systems resulted in an attack on one of the brave escorts (causing him to retract an earlier comment that the journey had not been painless though nobody had been killed!). Cmdr Travis also managed to get entangled in the landing pad equipment – darn high gravity! Not fun with no shields.

All’s well that ends well, and humanity’s endeavours to stretch our grasp to the furthest reaches are once again rewarded. Not least, for Travis, over 15 million credits for mostly scoop-honking and introductions to two new engineers with Elvira leveling up to level 5 from level 3. But the true gains lie in richer experiences – learning about wings, escorts, voice comms (nearly!) and tagging the last star in the galaxy – or the first. And most of all flying with the best Commanders in the galaxy.

Commanders, I salute you. It is an honour to fly with you.

And still the infinite blackness beckons…
