Star size comparison - VY Canis Majoris, Betelgeuse, Sol

Just wanted to share these 3 images I made on a quick trip from yesterday.
Comparing the three stars at 10.000ls distance.
Is VY Canis Majoris still the biggest star in the ED galaxy?
UY Scuti and the other known record holders don't seem to exist in the current galaxy.

Anyway, here are the pictures, feel free to share any other size related findings you came across.

I've just visited Betelgeuse, and it's ridiculous that at the speed of 0.33 you aren't getting anywhere. If anything, that truly shows their size.

RW Cephei is in the game. According to wikipedia it is 3rd largest at 1,535 Solar Radii.

If the wikipdia list is right then that makes RW Cephei the game's biggest real life star. How accurate it is in-game is another question.

Also note that these real life measurements are not 100% accurate. VY CMa could be bigger.

4k Ly?
That's a tad bit more than 60 jumps.
Let's find out then.

Took me a bit longer because shinies.

Bit disappointing to see it's even smaller than Betelgeuse.
Maybe it'll be fixed some day.

for comparison:

V4641 Sagittarii, which i have visited in september.

"In 1999 a violent X-ray outburst revealed it to contain a black hole. At the time, it was considered to be the closest known black hole to Earth, at a distance of approximately 1,600 light-years (490 pc). Later observations showed it to be at least 15 times farther away."

those numbers you find at wikipedia etc. are not very precise and are about to change the next years more than once.

I'll put in my usual word for RS Persei which is pretty huge in-game and has a landable world inside the fuel scooping zone. Worth a visit but 8 Kylies out.

Hoooold on a Second! Theres another System with Planets that are way too close to the star that any sane person would land on them ? Sounds like just the place i would go to! :D
Still have 35k ly to go for Jaques but after that im going to land on that planet and get a nice tan.

ive been looking for stuff like this since i found the 3 Toasters around HD 49368. But i didnt have much luck so far.
well.. I found some very close planets, but none of them were landable.

Nice, and slap bang on my intended route a few months hence. Bookmarked for a visit on the way past.

It's about 1200 solar radius if I remember right, and there's at least one other similarly sized star plus other giants in the same cluster.

Check out Betelgeuse. The first landable will leave you fuel scooping on the surface.
It's 497Ly from Sol, well worth the trip.

Went to Betelgeuse right after HD 49368 but it wasnt nearly the same. Also the first landable Planet isnt in Scoopable range iirc. There is a Planet in scoop range but you cant land on that one sadly.

Betelgeuse 2 is well within scoop range. Video of landing here (@3:30) https://youtu.be/EN1ubZ9BBbc?t=3m30s
It's not the same really. Landed with no heat sink. Never got above 55%. Not nearly as hot as HD 49368.

I turned off my scoop after my tank was full.

Landing at HD 49368 took me three heat sinks to land and three to take off and heat damage destroyed the ones I didn't use.

Looks like my memory failed me once more :/ But still, its not nearly as close as HD 49368 1,2 and 3. I hope ill find something similar on the way to Jaques since i didnt have much time to look for that while i was jetting to Beagle Point.
