General / Off-Topic Star Wars the last Jedi

I find the new trilogy lazy. Rey has done no grinding like Luke had to. She is just awesome without actually doing any training. We follow no progress of hers, she just is from what convoluted story they managed to bore us with. Speed 3

It is, lazy and poorly written at so many levels I don't know where to start.

4-5-6 will always be the real SW to me, everything before and after in the series is just noise.

Just like the Ghost-busters reboot, this will fade away an be a distant memory at best.

I'm so pleased that Blade Runner 2049 was as good as it was, it really restored my faith in movie make again.

I liked it, so whatever. I tend to try and enjoy movies instead of find reasons to not like them. I've managed to like every one of them. It's about enjoying each one for what they are, not for what came before them. Looking forward to the next ones.

gotta agree with the above Dbrn47 - love the films but I have to say - there's just not that special something that makes them stand out. I'm thinking that there maybe some subliminal images in there that will set the populous up for frozen 2.

{There's a witty meme to be placed here that involves chewie in the antartic with a bunch of penguins, a bear and a bottle of tequila}

Maybe that#s just me though.

V2k.

So I finally watched it, and it was just one of the most toe crunching expirences ive had for a long time.

The story socked, the characters were silly and every thing in between just stupid. Disney finally killed my childhood and it didn’t felt good.

I’m I getting old? What’s wrong with today’s movies, are they just getting more and more stupid?

I praise Blade Runner 2049 was a good movie, so there is still hope.....

I only liked Star Wars when I was a child, I have grown out of that non-sense.

I agree that Blade Runner 2049 was very good...but it tanked at the box office, so bad news for those of us who still like good movies.

The best sci-fi always tanks at the box office.

Moon only made $9.8 million yet it's easily one of the best sci-fi films of the last few decades.

I really tried, but I can't even remember the Finn plot, but perhaps that's just because my memory sucks.

At the end of the film when they cut back to the kid with the broom ... I forgave that whole plot line. Having that one scene with the kid at the end was worth the meandering.

Rian Johnson has a green light for his own trilogy depsite TLJ backlash.... So we have that to look forward to. [knocked out]

Ah yes, a mistreated child with a strong connection to the force.
Not seen that plot before, what could possibly go wrong in training this kid in the way of the force?

Nope, it'll be fine!

I gernally enjoy your posts Lysan, but disagree with this one. Disney can be atrocious, but I think they did good with the property they were given and also given how G Lucas destroyed things after the second film... ugh. I think the third movie was enjoyable despite GL descent to please his son, but episodes 1-3 were horrid. At least Disney made these entertaining, kept to tropes and the acting was bearable or even good.

I am a fan of the first two films and not much more, but think Disney has done OK.

Main complaint is "repeating the same story over and over". I want to see some "conclusion" (silly, I know as life just goes on and change is eternal). I wonder if Disney will be able to exit the trap of repetition now that the last jedi is gone. I hope for somehtint original and staggering in episode 9 to conclude things- but seems like they need 4 hours at least to do that.

In term of plot, after the last one I found it a new hope, watch again.

Force FaceTime killed it for me.

We went from "feeling a disturbance In the force" in the old films to Force FaceTime where you can reach out and connect with your friends and see what they had for dinner or look at their cat pictures and stuff.

Ridiculous plot vehicle.

Oh and Luke punked himself in as big a way as he possibly could. Sigh.

We're not a club of yesmen so that's ok. My point is there is just no bite in the movie, sure lots of CGI and what not but the story is just meh? and silly.
4-5-6 got a story to tell, some of it was good some of it was silly like the Ewoks, this time we got a mix of Harry Potter and what not? I had the same feeling after watching this one, as
I got after I watched Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, OMG that movie was a disappointment too...

I expected light saber duels on the level of juiced up ninjas. Instead we get a lackluster sci fi chase movie with most of the story recycled from the early 80's. On that alone the movie is crud. I guess those that liked it love shiny flashy things. ha you would have loved the old arcades. Plenty of flashy things in there back in the day.

I know what you mean OP. Much of the story of TLJ seemed misguided nonsensically and written by someone(s) with a personal agenda. Technically well done but treading dangerously into becoming a farce of the lore and franchise. Agreed BR2049 was refreshingly a respectable sequel.

Agreed. The Force Awakens has that, to a degree, but unlike TFA, where I could kinda, sorta, see how Han Solo might have slid back to the place he was, before A New Hope (maybe), it felt like Luke Skywalker’s character had been replaced by a complete stranger.

I know a lot of people complain about the Prequal trilogy, but I actually liked them. They had their flaws, but most of those flaws only showed up upon closer inspection. All through The Last Jedi, I kept getting pulled out of the movie to ask, “Why?” or “What the frell did I just see?”

I found the last jedi a big disappointment. It had such potential. Whose idiotic idea was it to kill of Snoke like that? ugh.
