The Federal High Court trial over the destruction of Starship One has been temporarily halted following a proffered confession from the defendant.
Chief Technician Rory Webster is charged with mass murder and treason, with testimonials claiming that he ordered his engineering team to sabotage Starship One’s hyperdrive systems.
Crime correspondent Ethan Takahashi reported for The Federal Times:
“Despite a spirited performance from the defence, highlighting the absence of a sufficient motive, Mr Webster visibly struggled in the dock last week as the technical evidence mounted. Several jury members nodded when the prosecutor called for the death sentence, should the accused be found guilty of slaughtering hundreds.”
“The judge was about to begin her summation, when Mr Webster’s defence counsel announced that the defendant now wished to change his plea to guilty and make a full confession in return for clemency, claiming that he had acted on ‘orders from the top’.”
“There was much discussion between the judge and legal representatives. Eventually it was agreed that the trial would be suspended while Mr Webster’s testimony was taken by the Federal Intelligence Agency, and then a suitable course of action would follow.”
The Federal Attorney’s Office stated that a decision on resuming the trial is expected within a few days.

Given the direction of what is going on in Imperial space presumably another Engineer is going to get some blame here...
Are we going to have a coordinated effort to tarnish the names of all Engineers eventually leading us to have to seek them out more covertly and with new rep mechanics to allow us to make use of their services?
10 credits he hangs himself... From a 2 foot tall prison bed.... In a 0G prison cell... 5 minutes after the security cameras (that have worked continuously for the last 3 decades without any problems) fail....on the same night he meets his new cellmate whos jacked up like Terry crews... while the entire garrison of prison guards are asleep on the job.
Depends WHO is the people at the top are... could have another stuck up fed commander who thinks they know best and have a small war as they try to defect to an indepedant faction or some more "experiment bombs could go boom".. as the commander financed the other bombs creation..

I hope so. I always thought it should be more interesting to get engineered equipment instead of just grinding for materials.
Depending on what mod you’re trying to add you might have to do some shady things like raid military storages or steal/black market type of activities.

Grounds for a retrial or appeal methinks, evidence of a biased jury, shame Mr Webster didnt have a better lawyer's advice before changing his plea....

Perhaps they are running a Cardassian-style trial, in which the accused is already found guilty, the trial is just explaining why the court is right about finding the accused guilty.

Perhaps the cameras can accidentally fail, just like with Smeaton. I still swear the two incidents are related (thats back to Galnet 2015 for the newer cmdrs).
