Newcomer / Intro starting out... penniless...

sooo.... i sold my discovery sensor, pick up +2 cargo , then felt my speed too slow in a star system, hopping from one station to another, so upgraded my frame drive - i need more credits to do this fun stuff !!! :)

still too slow btw - i'm in LHS 3447, running between stations for some quick cash, so i gotta bump up to the next frame drive when i can afford... but then i gotta get a better power unit... geez... ;)

When the time comes to upgrade to a bigger ship, be sure to sell all your modules back first. You will lose 10% of the cost of your old ship but the modules can be sold for what you paid for them.
1. Sell all upgraded modules.
2. Sell ship.
3. Buy new ship.
4. Buy new modules.

Fly safe.

i take it your running missions and trade between lhs 3447 and Ervate if so you can make some very good cash running food and machine between the 2 system i'd not worry to much about upgrading your sidy if your still using it and i'd go for a hualer or a adder as your make money faster and within a few hours you should be able to get a cobra

As a new-ish player myself (a few days' worth of time under my belt, but I've already almost made it into an FdL) the best thing you can do right now would probably be to earn yourself another 30-40k credits, fly to a station where you can purchase another ship, and get into an Adder. I say Adder and not Eagle because the Adder makes a surprisingly good fighter (due to more available power and a medium-sized hardpoint), and it also comes with cargo space to boot should you wish to do some trading instead.

FSD upgrades only affect your jump range. All ships have the same speed limitations in super-cruise.

In order to legally fire on a wanted ship you must target them, point your ship at them and wait for the scan to complete. Once they read as "wanted" in the bottom left of the HUD you are free to engage.

If a ship fires at you AND hits you, it will instantly be marked as wanted, bypassing the above.

Choosing a faction only applies at specially marked conflict zones, not nav beacons. You do NOT want to go anywhere near them in that Sidewinder.

You can dispose of cargo without being fined if you are still docked. The "jettison" option will be replaced with "discard". Otherwise just run silent until you are outside the no-fire-zone then dump the contraband.

Trading is a waste of time in the smaller ships. You can earn much better credits by bounty hunting or rare trading.

Now that you have a bit of cash you can buy a good FSD, slap a fuel scoop on and you'll be able to do the distance rare trading needs. just google that and there will be a ton of info on it. basic jist is buy rare items in certain locations (they are all mapped out by the community) haul them 150 Ly away and flog for about 15,000 credits per ton. yes, fifteen thousand credits profit per ton. that is by far the best way to earn credits outside of combat in the smaller ships. that doesn't change until you push past the 100 ton cargo size, and even then you'd need to find a good regular trade route to compete with rare trading.

the other route is combat. head to a RES site or a NAV beacon. when you're there target each ship and wait for the scan to complete (always always do this). if the scan pops up wanted then it's a valid target to shoot at. to get the bounty voucher you need to have done some damage in the last few seconds (or have got the killing blow if other players are shooting). you can follow the cops about and shoot at their targets once you've done your scan, will make life a lot safer, not because you wont get shot at, but because the cops will help kill the target a lot quicker.

once you've collected some vouchers (check the left hand side transactions screen) dock up and cash them in. don't leave it too long as if you die they will be lost. so cash em in at sensible intervals.

bounty hunting pays very well early on. as you get bigger ships you can start to focus on finding the better kills. each time you arrive at an empty RES site the dice gets rolled as to what will spawn. with a solid combat ship you want to keep hopping in and out until you see lots of anacondas and other big ships. for now don't worry about it, just follow the cops about and gather some cash and combat experience. by the time you have a vulture you'll be ready to go big game hunting (viper/cobra too, but with those smaller guns they are very good at mopping up the smaller game).

Escorting Friendly traders... how does that work?

Most my earnings have come from missions.

Trading... seems like a lot of work here to make the right score.
I think I have to download some tools for track best supply / demand ?
I'll look into that... And upgrading my cargo bays...

More feedback is appreciate :)

Yes. Escorting friendly traders is another way to make money. Not as profitable as doing the work yourself but team up with a few T9's or Conda's and you can make a decent amount, especially if just starting out.

thx all - about banked about 40k now... about that ship purchase... i hear a lot of folk going to an Eagle 1st.
If one does that, do they take a big hit on resale, to then upgrade to an Adder?

I think it is a question of gameplay style. If you want to continue down the bounty hunter path go with the eagle. If you want to start trading and upgrading to better ships faster go with the Adder. Trade is still undoubtably the most profitable way to make money. FD has done a good job of trying to balance out the combat and exploration side, so its a little more even, but trade is still king. A very very boring king.

you guys rock!!!

I decided to go on a slave run, and made around 50k - including a bounty I picked while minding my own business!

And for whatever crazy reason, I picked up 11 viewers, one friended me, and we formed a wing to do bounty runs!

I've upgraded quite a few slots on my siddy now, and pretty sure with credits banked, and selling the upgrades, I can buy an Adder - I think that'll be my next stop!

I bought the game through STEAM, and steam has broadcast settings.

btw, just picked up an Adder, and had creds to spare, so upgraded quite as bit as well!

always upgrade when you can. you are just slowing your progression if you dont. just make sure its the upgrade you want according to play style

Hi Guys,

I started playing a few days ago and was advised by a friendly ship the best way for me to start was bounty hunting and wow I made 2.8 million doing this time and time again.

I would head to a RES and kill Anacondas, I now have a Viper fully loaded and I am wondering is there another way I can make more money than bounty hunting ?

I recently bought a T6 trading ship and I am having second thoughts about this hence the effort to join this forum and take some advise from others. Is Trading in a T6 more profitable than Bounty Hunting ??

If so where can I get the routes and products I need to make the money ?

Yes, this. Bounty hunting is cake - get a couple of kills with simple lasers, upgrade the lasers to gimballed ones, and then go to a mining resource site and look for big fights. Within half an hour of playing I was involved in a fight with an anaconda. Lots of friendly security took him most of the way down, I arrived in time I finish him off, and bam- 90k credits for one kill. That happened pretty regularly so one can get into a bigger ship pretty quickly with minimal sidewinder time or outfitting.

All , new player also 20 hours max , just read through the threads great advice and info
so far so good but its gonna get messy

anybody want to add me in game please do "space is a lonely place with only 20k worth of credits lol"

Game > JxJester

cheers

you can save up for a vulture to speed up your earnings in combat, those ships are excellent for big game hunting and will take down an anaconda faster than your viper can. to maximise bounty hunting you need to get lucky on a RES spawn with lots of big ships. each time you enter a RES site a dice is rolled to see what the spawns will be like. if you keep going in and out you can eventually get a set of spawns with lots of big ships. combine that with a vulture and you can hit 3 mill in 1 hour! the only problem is the time it might take to find such a spawn.

the T6 is the tipping point between earning good credits trading rares and actually trading normal stuff. you'd probably see more of a difference in a T7 or another ship with about 200 cargo. so for ease you might want to take the T6 rare trading and compare that to your bounty hunting. finding a trade route that pays better than rares in a T6 is quite difficult.

it's well worth having a few different ships though so you can mix things up depending on your mood.
