State of the game - Address our concerns please

Yeah, I agree, it isn't a fair comparison but EVE's mission structure hasn't changed a great deal since it's release.

Seriously? I haven't played EVE since its first couple of years, but there was practically nothing to the missions at launch. I remember doing them when they started to flesh it out a bit, and hearing about how much more they'd added after I stopped playing.

You can see how many jumps are left by opening the left hand panel you can see how many are left in the navigation screen.

NEVER SPEAK FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY HERE, SPEAK ABOUT YOURSELF EXPERIENCES ONLY.

I am not making any statement for the entire community, if I was I would of used the word entire. Instead I went with Our as it can relate to many ranges of people. Like you I enjoy the game and actually come across very few of the bugs that others have encountered but I have had them. CTD's are a thing which can normally be put down to a memory fart but game freeze's are a little more concerning.

While I can play the game happily I also note that many others cannot. Yes these forums are only a snap shot of the community as a whole but there can be no denying that the level of vocal posts about players issues are up. This means players are actively coming to the forums to voice there opinion's and concerns, these are the players I want to get some help for. Non of us want players to leave the game so anything that could cause this should be our (used collectively) concern.

P.S. I would also be sending them a an empty bottle of Scotch, they have done a good job, time to do it a bit better now.

1. Manually configure a custom jump list.
2. Save a trading jump list with a quick select.
3. Add bookmarks to favourite systems. (currently buying a sidewinder and leaving it in the station as a marker is no good when exploring)
4. Indication on the hud of how many jumps are left on a long jump sequence journey without opening the Galaxy Map.
5. Auto fill in the Galaxy Map search bar.

Granted these are not ground breaking 'wow' additions to the game, not as flashy as a moon-lander but in my opinion they are 'much' more important than some of the features that have been grafted into the game thus far.

I'm not a programmer but I would hazard a guess that those 5 additions would not be a huge time-sink in the grand scheme of things!

IAAP, my 2 cents on these things:

2-3 require saving these items to the database, and FD have generally been a cautious about adding features which add to the db load.

1-3 also require UI changes and these also seem to be a development bottleneck. My feeling is there is a lot of custom UI code in front of Scaleform that makes it more manual work to extend the UI than if they were just eg changing the UI of a Windows GUI program.

4 is there already, look in the left UI panel, Navigation pane, left hand side

5. Also requires hitting the galaxy API and thus database to get even a subset of local systems to do search as you type with, or queries every few hundred milliseconds, which would require more frontend API servers or the map would slow to a crawl on a Friday night.

I stopped playing ED the day 1.5 came out, and I'm not sure I'll ever play it again. Missions have been all-but deleted from the game, and I have to wonder if the basic game was hobbled to generate sales for the expansion pack. I'm keeping an eye on the boards to see if anything improves, but it seems to me that the relentless commercialisation of the brand has pushed gameplay to the periphary.

FWIW, I've loved every version of Elite since the 80's original, and I was a KS backer. I no longer feel that sense of loyalty, and I feel that to buy Horizons would be to throw good money after bad.

And yet the missions are still far superior to what we have in Elite, a game released 11 years later.

It's really a case of each to their own. In contrast, when Elite was released I managed to talk 4 of my friends into buying it, all of whom played EVE in the past, at this point I am the only one still playing Elite (if you can call rep grinding charity missions 'playing') and yet a couple of them are now back in EVE, mainly doing lvl4 missions because they find them fun. These are people who have paid for and have access to Elite and yet still choose to pay a sub so they can play EVE and are having fun just running missions.

So whilst you might not enjoy some content, other people clearly do.

Missions are getting better in Elite, the latest updates were pretty good... the variety grows. At least, Elite PVE Commanders use proper Fits. And sometimes they are quite a challenge.

In EvE, you even could do AFK missioning o_O

...no way better. its just funny, you praise the EvE mission system here in the Elite forums. EvE's PVE part, which is criticized as the weakest part of EvE for years.

unless 'long jump sequence' doesn't mean what i think it means, you have the number of jumps remaining on the navigation panel on the left.

Granted these are not ground breaking 'wow' additions to the game

they are nice-to-have. more pressing issues are missions to ports that don't exist or npc that don't spawn, or friends that can't meet in space. after that is fixed, we can campaign for your nice-to-haves, ok? :D

Left hand screen. First tab, left hand side of that screen. XX jumps to 'name of destination'. Not sure if that was added 1.5 or 2.0.

The launcher page tells you all you need to know. "ELITE DANGEROUS: HORIZONS BETA QUICK START GUIDE" So we are still in beta. Maybe by season 3 we will have the full production version.

The missions in the game, either by the bugs or because they are still very "basic" are really a waste.

POI also are a very unintelligent decision of gameplay, at least in the form they are in now.

After each update..bugs.

The artificial intelligence is walking backwards with each new update.

I really hope that the FD improve their quality of programming this year

Same here. I'd kept an eye out for any hint of Elite 4 coming out since I played FFE, and jumped on the kickstarter when it launched.

Frontier's attitude to original KS backers is that unless you paid a lot of money upfront for a lifetime pass, then your contribution basically amounts to nothing, and you can be quiet and be thankful for what you've got.

Really though, I should have remembered my experience with FFE: the first game I ever had to get a patch for because it was so broken on release.
Back then I had to go back to the games shop, where they had a stack of FFE patch disks (3.5" floppies) on the counter, which they were giving out.

Now, I'm playing the game I've got, hoping for it to be improved, and if Horizons drops to £10 at Christmas then I'll probably end up buying it.
Unless season 3 includes everything before it, in which case I can wait another year.
It's not like I'm short on other games to play, and more space games are coming soon...

Didn't you notice? Fdev stopped candid honest communication with players several months ago. Now, there are only few word remarks and charity events. Nothing about state of game, no answers from dev about technical issues. No SJA (who is still well loved).
I wonder about the reason. Maybe powers in fdev stopped caring because they are burnt out, maybe mood around game is not so good, because things go bad in the office. But the fact is, that bugs are getting worse, communication with players stopped only news are about cannon(about mission, nobody managed to do - what fun) or charity events. Nothing about (!)game itself for a long time.

Another explanation might be, that Michael Brooks or David Braben bought some marketing & communications seminar, where they got told, that talking to customer base is waste of time, as players swallow anything and it makes no difference to the bottom line.

ignorance is bliss

All I can report is that what I'm doing is stable. Bounty hunting, equipping for DW, etc.

As I said, people should remember they are posting their own opinions, not the opinions of everyone.

Here's hoping we shouldn't have long to wait. However, I expect it will be "We have had a great Horizons launch and holiday break and are now planning our 2016 activities. We look forward to being able to share more details in coming weeks."

there are thousands of Commanders like me, not experiencing any kind of glitches and bugs. But I won't say Horizons is free of bugs, as I can't speak for others experiences;))

Cheers Commanders!

So all the ED missions work perfectly for you? - I would suggest you're exaggerating somewhat.

As missons are a staple way of earning cash in the game for a lot of players, I would have thought they would have been addressed in the recent patch instead of depriving players a way of earning.

"We are really excited about something coming this year"
"We look forward to teasing you with future content and then failing to deliver"
"We can neither confirm or deny that any kind of immersive gameplay will be added this year"
"We look forward to adding features that nobody asked for or wants"

This is an open plea to someone from the community team at Frontier to address the community about the concerns being voiced here on you're official forums. Every day see's new posts about bugged missions, planets vanishing and just about everything else you can do in game has at least something to be complained about.

Now while I am the first to admit I am a fan boy and love the game to bits, enough is enough you are starting to take the Micheal in my opinion. You released Horizons before the holidays but was it really in a fit state? Did all these problems make it though Q & A before the various betas? If so then I can only say that you're Q & A department need to be asked what did they do? Sorry to be so blunt but the state of the game is just not acceptable to many of you're customers many of whom you have a contract with lasting for the season length of Horizon's.

You really need to at least post a state of the game type letter to try and appease you're current player base, which I can assure you will dwindle very fast if their concerns are not addressed.

The patch you put out yesterday addressed some concerns but went near very few of the issues that get raised. Today for instance Mr. Ant has posted yet more proof of graphic downgrades - if these are optimizations then they are showing either a weakness in you're engine or you are heading towards platform parity which I hope is not the case - PC gaming is on the up due to it being more powerful than either of the two consoles and well you should know it.

So, over to you Frontier, tell us why fanboys and doubters alike should keep the candle burning.

EDIT: To clarify, I have invoked the use of 'Our' not to pretend to speak for everyone that would be condescending. I am using it to encompass those of us who have had issues and would like a little 'something' just to keep our faith that things are being worked on and possibly a time frame. Sorry if you do not agree with my use of the word, I mean no offence.

I agree with a lot of your concerns, especially the downgrade of the graphics. (asteroid fields are shockingly bad in this regard, when compared to how they were even back in the Alpha!) FD really need to comment on this and stop people thinking they have been downgraded so the Xb1 doesn't look worse, as a lot of people are thinking that. I think a comment or two from FD would go a long way.

also, sorry but this irks me somewhat:-
your - "yours". ie:- This game is yours
you're - "you are". ie:- You are spoiling this game!
