Easy one. Whataburger, Chick-fil-A and Raising Cane's.
To be fair, what you call "regional" would be country sized in Europe. Your states are as big as a big european country. Bigger for some.
It's a shame they're so christian in all the worst ways.
But yea, they're probably at the top of the list. only real debatable thing comes from their limited menu. if you want a burger, you gotta go elsewhere. and sometimes you want a burger.
Maybe if you tell them what you'll do to them if they don't.
Of course, then they might decide to show you how they work.

As it's been well over a decade since I last visited anywhere in the states, and have never frequented any of these establishments... I would like to pose the same question!

Whataburger because they're the real, traditional burger. Chick-fil-A and Raising Cane's is a toss-up if you want chicken. Want it in a sandwich they're both good, if you just want tender, juicy, breaded chicken breast with great fries, Raising Cane's have them beat.

mcdonalds is garbage that only kids like because of toys.
Burger king is superior to them and burger king exists everywhere. Mcdonalds lost any claim to fame when they had to stop making their french fries with hamburger grease and whatever else they were doing back in the 80's.
If you have a checkers around, go there for french fries. Their fries are the best. They are peppered and double-fried
in and out is ....well i dont like weird sauces on my food and you dont really customize in and out orders. so i skip them
filet uses peanut oil and breads and cuts their stuff on-site, that's their big special claim to fame. And it's worthwhile.
El Pollo Loco is another western fast food place .. it is rather good. If you want something more healthy.
Panda Express is also good. Fake chinese food.
