State of the Game

I ate them all

Once upon a time Mauve Adder would casually strike me in rare occasions. But then it got engineered the hell up during the carrier train cg currently going. This is a tr00 story, not even a meme in the amount of occurences.

Doing missions for LTT 198 Order to get a permit to LTT 198 system? Mauve Adder.
Log back in go get a warm drink come back? Mauve Adder.
Check internet, modem etc, try using twitch, youtube, other games? No Mauve Adder anywhere. Must've been a fluke.
Come back, select Solo. Start jumping to the next faction mission, rek pirates and a spec ops mission? Before I get to the said system, Mauve Adder. And then 3 times during the pirate hunting once in said system; 2 times during the spec ops (civ kill wetwork).

Notices everytime Mauve Adder kicks in, my modem actually spazzing out into a reboot. And I do mean everytime. HmmMmMmm. Literally never happened before.

Head to a tourist settlement because why the heck not, let's grab some mats. Mauve Adder: one as I head out the planet to reset the spot, two more as I am approaching/about to land, four times while doing mischief to strip the place.

Modem still rebooting everytime Mauve Adder pops. Head back to check modem and so on, nothing going bad. It's like a parallel world.
Never done it before and never needed to, but go through the whole port forwarding thing and made sure it's all up and ready. Got a variant: Krait thing - only once, though.

Oh noes, it's the mtu? from initially 1492 to trying 1450, then 1430, nothing does it... Mauve Adder comes back, along with sending my modem back to the reboot screen.

Reset entirely the modem, put back in the port forwarding rules to it.

Head back. (still to solo) So let's see how long it takes thi- MAUVE ADDER. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?
Restart computer, restart modem on top of the "mauve adder modem reboot auto combo".

Check out more error and digging around said fixes. It seems I somewhat tried about anything I could. Double check menu option network in the game. Ping's a little higher than usual, 85. Generally I'm more about 70. Try other games, no ping increases. Web browser loading up pages at the same speed than usual. Come back; for variation, I tick Open mode again.

Head to McDonald's for cg. Mauve adder two times before I reach the system. Once in system, Mauve Adder 3 times as I'm about 4k ly away. Ofc when I log back, I'm 8k ly away.

No difference. Got to station, then go for a round 2 drink. Wow not Mauve Adder yet. Chat a bit, coupla minutes later, Mauve Adder. Try to get back asap, switch back to solo. TAUPE COBRA. OKAY BRO.

Head back to the internet, decide to switch from port restricted to full cone. Keeping the port forwarding ofc.
Go back in, decide to try in Horizons. But before I log in, I decide to muse on my control settings realizing they're all reset to default and that I might as well try switching a few binds for the heck of letting my muscle memory give me some conflicting giggles while I'll be in space. You know, something that would actually make me smile and get my head to think about something else.

Didn't even choose to head back into the game, I am literally just on the menu still thinking hey that'd be funny switching my boost and FA off bind to rotation axis and switch my vertical thrusting with my right thrusting and previous clockwise rota - MAUVE ADDER. Yes, the modem is still rebooting everytime.

I have also noticed that once I boot the game, my ping depicted ingame gets higher and higher. Oh here's something funny, if I ninja leave the game before Mauve Adder gets me, the ping increase stays for the rest of what I do. So I guess the modem has reasons to reboot.

And now I just realized that I'm barely above 3 billions; in the extremely unlikely occurence that Mauve Adder decides to go bother someone else, I won't really have much of a chance to get that humongous of an event of getting a cheaper carrier since the discount is only applied for a week (shame it's not more like a discount token that is stored for you the day you finally have proper funds to buy it.)

I spared you a lot more mauve adders in between these. I changed around my modem's speed (between slow and stable af or higher but more noise margin, with every set attempt four different mtu values for 5 different settings, plus a few custom ones I made - yes, that's over 20 extra mauve adders.)

And because I am a sickly stubborn and relentless type, I am now wondering if it is because I didn't cash in the previous cg. But that still doesn't explain why the very moment I boot the game the ping is gradually rising from 80 to... 250+. Until modem says what is this I'm restarting.

Alas, I am very, very tired now and think the Mauve Adder has bested me for the time being. Mauve Adder ain't what's new, but this suddenly happening so much and specifically the very moment I launch the game is very, very new for me.

Look out guys, Mauve Adder won't necessarily send you to a rebuy screen but the loss of time making creds is much greater. He is the most insidious griefer I have ever met.

And now I gotta go to my psychiatrist's appointment. That too, is not a meme.

o7. Have fun getting a cheap carrier keeps the tourettes in and btw, this is not asking for help or wondering if I should send a ticket about this. This is simply, what's new.
I can very much relate to this.

Mauve Adder is the new black!

It's a shame there's no planet named Zoo in ED.... could cross post and feign confusion.
This has been a niggling thought of mine for quite some time:

I'd love to have a strong enough case to rename a new habitable system "The Development Frontier", and name a few planets in it: Zoo, Coaster, Jurassic .
And now, in addition, two gateway stations: namely Lemnis and Chaos.

Anyone else remember the band Green Jello (AKA Green Jelly)? I recently watched their 1993 video of "Three Little Pigs". Brought back memories of MTV before it stopped being good. Sadly can't post a link here...

In other news, ever since Ody released, I've been referring to "Pioneer Supplies" as "Frontier Outfitting", sometimes even out loud...to other people...who then ask me if I ever know what the heck I'm talking about...

In a similar vein. If both PP and DBOBE were updated regularly the future would have been much more pleasant.

I think if Lord Brebus was actually good at flying and actually playing space combat/rade sims - he'd have gone in a much better direction than not incorporating skill in aspects of the various mechanics in the game. But to keep himself relevant in the game because he's so bad at it, none of that skill stuff or even giving power to players/player groups is allowed.

that's the only way i can imagine he'd be playing and go "yes, this is right" after like, the 8th hour playing. Otherwise he'd want to be tested, challenged, and rewarded on scale.

I think that is the wrong view on things - what you call real life is just necessary to acquire the means for entertainment, leisure and having a good time with those people you love, like and cherish - if your job is your hobby as well, this is a different thing of course - but otherwise that part of life dedicated to the acquisition of enough wealth is just important until you are financially independent - after that the real part of life - the entertaining and enjoyable part - gets center stage and the former "real life" becomes an anecdote of the past - nice to eventually be used in a conversation, but otherwise no longer important. We work to have a good life, not live to work - don't forget that.

In regards to gaming - in online games or platforms you get to know a large number of people from all over the world, whom you might cherish especially if the relation to them lasts for more than a decade already - to keep these personal connections alive is important, but because one lives that far apart, this is just possible online or mostly online This can be an even more important part of your life than real life - because you might have an even better time with them than with your local friends.

TL;DR don't think that being the hamster in the treadmill would be the important part - being off-duty, like you call it, is what life is all about, not the treadmill. Near the end of your life you should be able to say "I had a really enjoyable life" and not "I was a dedicated hamster in the treadmill of life", because the latter got you nowhere - it is circular.
I agree with all your points.
It's still silly and ridiculous how games are treated like serious business. The games themselves I mean.
Sometimes I watch movies and series, and (with exceptions) those are generally not taken as serious as games. I also do origami from time to time. Never heard someone raging about the quality of the paper or talk crap in a YouTube tutorial. That's what I mean.
Games are toys.
