State of the Game

Might need something stronger than that old chap!
Yes; something with a little more kick........... one round.

so, apparently Knights rode horses the size of ponies . that has comical repercussions for so many movies and TV shows.
Big massive horses were only used for joust tournaments, and only very late in those knightly old times. They only had to go from A to B in a straight line, so didn't need the nimble turn ability of smaller ponies. The nobility also liked looking impressive on them.
However, for warfare, a fast and quick-turning horse is the way to go. We limit our horse size to 16 hands, and even that is too large. Best size is around 15 hands, even less.

they are saying evidence shows just over 14.2 hands or well under 5ft was on the upper most end for war horses.

would make so many visuals for shows hilarious. braveheart's inspiration scene would have probably been on a tiny looking mini horse. the expectation is just so far removed from what the reality was... nobody would believe it

Sounds about right. It’s also interesting that most knightly or princessy characters ride Friesians, Probably because they are impressive. It’s a 16th-17th century breed though, so a bit weird for a Viking warlord or whatever to bumble about on.

Andalusians are maybe a better choice, as these at least are from the 15th century onwards. Still, not a pony for King Arthur and his merry men.
