yea... sounds like some nonsense reverse racism crap a white guy in texas would be believing in.
joking about groups still being murdered for being part of that group or ostracized or shunned or beaten up etc simply because they've been given legal status that recognizes their equality because up until then they weren't is not being progressive or fair etc. It's trying to hide behind that group's success to let them know that they're far from equal still.
when a group is no longer suffering negative side-effects from being associated with that group, then it's cool to make fun of their association with that group. generally. So give it a generation or two after those things have ended (which may be long after any legal status change).

It's a really good game. Don't spoil yourself, it's all about the surprise (good or bad).

The game is carefully balanced in the threat increase and amount. So it can be scary and whatnot, but never unfair IMO.
