State of the Game

When there is stuph to be had, and nobody to take it. Who do you call ?

That's right ! The Bourbon Knight, @Bottom Hat !

Oh that is just brilliant mate, thank you so much! I like the touch of having the hat on the little guy too!

Do you mind if I borrow it and add the phrase? To save me typing? Actually you can probably do a better job than me, if you have time to make a quote meme? You are a legend dude! ;)

Yeah I have had the guy blocked for a week now, and it is bliss not having a crap youtube soundtrack in the background
Oh well. I went to a bar to watch the game instead of posting youtube links on Elite Dangerous forums. I suppose it could be considered a luxury in these times. A gay bar even. Not sure how to feel about sheets. Sometimes I feel I've reached an age where you can't stay up for too long, but still need to plan something for early morning. Perplexed.

I hoped you enjoyed it mate - the people tooting their horns on the main road near me are really going for it!

I agree on the sheets though. Gotta be prepared if you're going to sheet the bed.

So 3 hours of livestream, all but a minute...
1 Death (oops!)
1 Mission bugged but completed 2nd try
Some useful mats / Data gathered
A lot of fun had!

No crashes, some artifacting when crouched (which is annoying and a recent addition) and a perfect demonstration how poor flying skills get when doing mainly foot-based stuff.
And all on a 2080S (although it is a Gold Sample GPU!)

Sadly, I appear to have missed the exciting football 🥳

@Erei - I'm not having a go at you personally, I'm above that except for the odd exception.
Just illustrating that some of our posters appear to be less than wholly truthful - if I can do surface missions even in places with fire, at 2560*1440 and stay mainly at 60 FPS on my last generation GPU...

If you need a chuckle, my getting a face full of plasma was good!

Has this game gotten even easier?
I didn't remember my shields recharging as fast as in EDO, also police got way more underpaid now?
Robbing high sec was never that big a walk in a park on frequented shipping lanes.
Planetside bombing while fun, isn't even worth the time, and ground FLAK shrugging of shock cannon rounds, yeah you know. Balanced.
At least the little Planetmans frequently respawning getting bombed was some fun, and the restock on arms also was free with a simple high wake.
Not to mention entering "stopmotion mode" when close to a new settlement.

:D Time to Delete: Dangerous.

That's what I find very hard to understand - I've been collating data in another thread, and folk with vastly more powerful systems are having very very poor performance, and are able to document it.

i don't think it matters about how strong the system is. just what features it supports getting utilized in the shaders being run.

lower end hardware likely doesn't run the same shader code as others

at least with the new amd scaler i can manage supersampling at .85 and get 90fps in roid fields again.

I could screenshot my PC running at sub 10 FPS (it is quite easy!) in the game and use that to prove how poorly my PC was performing with all of that expensive hardware...

What I prefer to do is livestream actual play - with the game FPS counter running continually - then others can judge for themselves if my comments are truth.

Odyssey runs at 0.5 to 0.3 the FPS of Horizons - even at a lower resolution, no debate, but should I decide to whack everything to maximum at 4K and visit a settlement with lots of fires (in ULTRA FOR CAPTURE, of course) the FPS would tank into single digits straight away.

I'm making compromises to play, in comparison to Horizons, which should never, ever, be a thing in this game! But, the main thing is that I can play, for hours, with 'good enough' performance. I paid £30 and £40 for Odyssey on 2 accounts - have played and enjoyed well over 100 hours so far... I also paid £60 for CP2077, played for 38 hours, am unlikely to ever fire it up again. Looking at it that way, which is giving me real value?

it runs good on amd, but it runs like crap on nvidia it seems. Not optimized at all for nvidia super raytracing gpus.
