State of the Game

You left out the high pressure 'paid for this' system moving in, what what

There is also a very large sense of entitlement due in the next few days.

Tara pet

If i purchased odyssey directly and not as a lep....i'd be super p***ed at what my money got me as well. Most, didn't opt in to a 6 month beta when purchasing.

I did and I am.

I bought Odyssey with real money and am far from miffed...
Not best pleased with the issues, but what an expansion to play!

As you've not played for how long now, surely the comment is academic?

I play every few days still. and even though my activity is not surface bound (since odyssey doesn't give me any additional reasons to be so than horizons did since i'm out in the black and can't apparently fabricate a plasma cutter).... the activity i can do has been negatively impacted by odyssey on multiple fronts since it's release.

From the super bad launch changes to the client and issues that persisted there thru roughly 5 of the updates since ...to the graphical and performance related issues that have my graphics card struggling to display the same quality level and scope of effects and content - that horizons was able to handle with relative ease. Impacting any hope of decent VR performance when i use VR.

if i were near actual game content or involved with the day to day BGS shifts..i'd be even more impacted, not less. And we see that reflected in basically every metric available in terms of player sentiment and engagement.

You being far from miffed seems to be an exception to the general state, rather than the average. in as much as the type of person who enjoys deep space exploring in the game is already an exception from the average player.

Sure, but it's easier to be likeable and make others (want to) help you if you (can) make impression you enjoy interacting with them.
So, the social skills I have mentioned in previous posts can be basics of "luck building" in your sense.

EDIT: and I am not referring to such skill as playing, acting or manipulating others.
It's just the "I lack social skill what makes me nervous what makes people I interact with nervous" I remember as one of most annoying "life ruiners" from my early youth.
you know, I'm quite straight forward and I might say to someone I'm not certain to like him, something like "at first I really thought, I might not like you, but now I have a feeling, we might actually get along and eventually even become friends" - this is risky, but it is authentic and truthful and if he isn't a too dumb person, he might value this more than pretentious flattery - I might get a response quite as "harsh", but eventually this is the beginning of a marvelous friendship. Being honest is risky but good people will value it.

Hmmm, I abandoned the 'explorer community' a couple of years ago as they appeared to be a bunch of folk I'd not choose to entertain in real life, so I'm not likely to do so in recreation...
Granted, I've only travelled a little over a million LY on my 1st account (which is most of the way to the Norma Expanse from Colonia, currently) so am only a tourist - but I do have this account for other stuff, so am never at a loss for things to entertain me.

True, Odyssey hits hardware hard, it'll get sorted sooner or later, but as my hardware is pretty modern I can play, apart from in extraction surface installations, with my FPS sticking pretty much at 60.

it's not that there is not things people could do to ignore the parts of the game that are bad currently and that they're just failing to do so which makes them unnecessarily angry.

it's that for most people, buying odyssey meant an expectation of release level functionality for feet on ground gameplay within the elite dangerous game and the rather conservative expectation that the hallmarks of the game would exist as such into the expansion at the least and ideally improve on them.

what they got was not that. They got a beta that likely wont deliver that release level DLC until the end of the year. Yea, they could do the things less impacted ..but they shouldn't have to avoid the things the odyssey dlc specifically sells... because its actually not done yet. They shouldn't have had to wait for months while it got even as functional as it currently is. And the people who chose not to shouldn't have been negatively impacted the way they were by the release either (as odyssey has introduced regressions in horizons as well as mucked up the bgs cycles and states or changed the behavior in ways that were not warned about - leading to players unsure if things are bugs or working as newly intended).

there's a whole lot to be miffed about, and an actual majority are. Which is an entirely new thing for elite dangerous, as the miffed people used to always be a minority of players. odyssey definitely pushed that scale passed that critical point.

it is not even odyssey - it is the lack of hope for the future of the game - that is why people are leaving or stay away from it because playing it would just frustrate them even more. And just fixing Odyssey won't change that significantly - there is still no hope for the future.

What? I didn't know that Odyssey could also be bought with bricks

I got mine with used milk bottle tops. But to be fair, Brebus is a big antique aluminium collector, and they are rare to find in the wild nowadays. I even threw in an old dead-head badge for his shirt.

That's so polite for you mate lmao!

it's not only odyssey for sure. all of the little things that players had been ignoring and doing something else or giving Fdev the benefit of the doubt just got pushed beyond that line every person has that they'll keep quiet about and take ... which is different for everyone for everything.. but it seems for a majority of elite dangerous players that was passed with odyssey.

things like anti-aliasing not working correctly for the entire life of the game, long standing mission bugs and bgs issues. UI issues. just all the bits and pieces you personally interact with that are either bugged, minimally viable or could be obviously improved... that took you to maybe 75% miffed. Odyssey just threw too many of them simultaneously over 100% because it was bad across the play styles of that many players.

Well, for some people being totally honest and straightforward can be... countereffective in socializing.

Just imagine some of my "honest remarks":

"I'm not saying anything, because actually I don't care about and you are worthless to me, you so my brain is not giving me any content I could start with"

"I know I am currently charming and it seems to work on you as intended, but you should know it's probably just because you seem to be an "asset" worth investing some effort in getting to like me better - I am usually not like this.
It's not even like I am acting, my subconsciousness is making all the work switching me to a "mode" optimal for given circumstances.
And I feel like I should listen to your babble, because it's obvious you like to be listened to, so let's continue: you were saying?"

And a lot of "one liners" that appear in my head as the 1st answer to some usual "daily routine" questions you hear every day like
"anything else?", that are not really worth citing.

Many of them are obscene, as my mind seems to serve me some kind of ribald stand-up comedy narration in the background occasionally.

So, it's not like being NOT COMPLETELY honest is much of a choice, it's more like "survival" instinct to those with... cocky, impudent verbal part of internal world.
