State of the Game

Bathroom nearly complete - no carpet here either!

The pipes were boxed in a short time later - half-round moulding.

well it is a british thing though
My boat has Floatex floorcovering throughout, feels like (very) short pile carpet, can be washed like cushionfloor / plastic flooring. I suppose the "kitchen" carpets are similar.

Nope, still never seen or even heard of this being used in real life. I can only assume that as Ratty says, the word carpet is unhelpfully inaccurate. Cushioned vinyl makes sense.

eventually it is no longer trendy, but it certainly has been a british thing.

No it certainly hasn't.

I'm not sure how many British kitchens you've stood in through the last 60 years, but I've been in plenty.

And, sorry but the article is complete and utter nonesense.

When we first bought our house (Nice Victorian thing, lots of 'features' etc). The kitchen had brown carpet tiles - which had managed to soak up a lot of dirt and grease over the years.
The living room walls were covered in a brown / gold flock wallpaper, all the doors had been boarded over, so that they were flat, and the banister / stairs were also boarded over, so that you couldn't see the balusters.

It was a delight to behold.
Thankfully we saw beyond all the cack, and saw what a lovely place it was underneath. It now looks great, although being an old house, there is always something to do.

Oh, yes - It's Wednesday - ARE WE THERE YET!!
