State of VR Support

... it would be nice wouldn't it?

It's a shame really. FDev are only 1 step away from VR Odyssey as it is.
  • Game already supports VR
  • On foot UI is mainly panel-monitors on the walls.

It seems they would only need to "turn it on" and maybe some UI tweaks here and there and they'd have full VR in Odyssey.

Why they didn't just do it from the start... who knows?.. 🤷‍♂️

joystick game play is really niche too, but a flight sim without it isn't a real flight sim.

really good vr is a differentiator. elite got a lot of good press for its vr. if this game didn't need a second screen for most game play besides combat, I'd say vr is really the only way to experience the game. as it is, if you have never played elite even temporarily in vr... then you have categorically, not played elite dangerous. just some pale shadow version.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the VR in this game just a pet project of one dev who is no longer working for FDev? That is what I heard once. Sounds pretty plausible considering the support it seems to get now. I think every sim type game with a cockpit view should have VR option.

You can place the camera drone where your head is and get 3D that way.

Doing on foot CZ (with correct controls set up) is viable in this mode.
(exobio might be viable too; idk tho: was told by a CMDR)

As there is no GUI, activities on foot are limited unfortunately.

The market is growing and elite is still one of the best examples for an immersive VR experience
Is the PCVR market actually growing noticeably?
Certainly standalone VR appears quite successful, but I don't see many "AAA" studios churning out PCVR titles to take advantage of a growing market. (quite the opposite, it seems)

Initial VR purchases are for getting past the "wow" factor. I wonder how many initial VR users never upgraded their VR gear due to limited titles.

Well, even with a player base that fits neatly into a shallow niche in the wall, one could argue that any content-starved market is an opportunity to be the biggest fish in a small pond... :p
