I live in the Great Plains area of the United States, so blizzards are not uncommon. Here's our unofficial guide to surviving a major snowstorm:
1) Buy all the milk, bread, and eggs you can find even though you don't necessarily eat that much milk, bread, or eggs usually
2) Buy a new snow shovel to replace your old one, 24 hours after the 6" snow storm hits
3) Drive as though nothing unusual has happened
4) If you have a four-wheel-drive vehicle, drive faster than usual because 4WD means infinite traction
5) Shovel driveway (I think maybe just "drive" in British English?) and sidewalks within 8 hours of storm, per city ordinance
6) Shovel driveway again after city plows the snow back from the roadway onto your driveway
Most importantly,
7) Stay home and play ED until the internet goes down and then all is lost; might as well eat some bread and eggs at that point
